Director, Software Engineer
Overview
The Director, Software Engineering role at Capital One involves working on a wide range of projects, from customer-facing web and mobile applications to highly-available RESTful microservices and back-end Java-based systems. Key responsibilities include leading and managing multiple teams of software engineers, mentoring and guiding their professional and technical development, collaborating with product managers to define application capabilities, and continuously improving software engineering practices.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 7 years’ experience in software development
- At least 5 years’ experience in people management
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
- 10+ years’ experience in software development
- 5+ years’ experience in Agile practices

Pay
The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
- Mclean, VA: $269,100 - $307,200 for Director, Software Engineering
Qualifications
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
