About the role

Ritual is seeking a Director of Shopify Engineering to lead and scale the engineering team responsible for building and maintaining our eCommerce platform on Shopify. This role will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, and Operations to drive innovation and optimize the online shopping experience for our customers.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team focused on Shopify development.
• Architect, develop, and maintain scalable and secure Shopify applications, themes, and custom solutions.
• Partner with Product and Design teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications and roadmaps.
• Optimize site performance, conversion rates, and overall user experience on the Shopify platform.
• Implement best practices for code quality, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Collaborate with third-party vendors, agencies, and Shopify Plus support to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
• Stay current with Shopify’s evolving ecosystem, including new features, APIs, and industry trends.
• Drive continuous improvement in development processes, tools, and infrastructure.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Shopify development, including Liquid, Shopify APIs, and theme customization.
• Proficiency in modern web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Node.js).
• Experience with headless commerce, storefront APIs, and integrations with ERP, PIM, and other backend systems.
• Strong understanding of eCommerce principles, including UX/UI, conversion optimization, and analytics.
• Proven track record of delivering complex projects in a fast-paced, agile environment.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Passion for mentoring engineers and fostering a collaborative team culture.
