Director, Senior IP counsel

About the role

For our client, we are seeking a Director, Senior IP counsel to join the team of a leader in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech space. This role will lead key intellectual property efforts supporting a biologics-focused pipeline and broader biopharmaceutical business objectives. The position partners closely with senior leadership, business development, and scientific stakeholders to shape IP strategy, assess risk, and protect valuable innovation. It also requires a strong command of patent prosecution, portfolio development, freedom-to-operate analysis, and global patent and regulatory data protection considerations. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain a strong intellectual property portfolio for biologics products
• Serve as a strategic partner for senior leaders on intellectual property issues
• Support corporate and business development, including due diligence and contract negotiations
• Monitor patent trends and advocate for important IP positions
• Conduct patent searches, competitive analysis, and freedom-to-operate analysis
• Review scientific publications and presentations for compliance
• Provide litigation support and conduct validity analysis

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school; admitted to USPTO and at least one state bar
• Advanced degree in biological sciences; Ph.D. preferred
• At least 7 years of relevant experience in biopharmaceutical intellectual property practice
• Deep understanding of global biopharmaceutical patent law and regulatory data protection
• Proven track record of patent portfolio development

Pay

$211,000 – $271,000 annually
