Director/Senior Director of Research Software Engineering

Responsibilities

• Define and execute long-term vision and strategy for software systems and data infrastructure
• Oversee full-stack development of SFARI Base, enhancing researcher data access
• Drive engineering standards for reliability, maintainability, and scalability
• Manage and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of excellence
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate researcher needs into software solutions
• Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of software projects
• Champion the researcher experience, ensuring intuitive and well-documented systems
• Advocate for engineering decisions that support open science and FAIR data principles

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field
• 12+ years of software engineering experience, with 7+ years in a leadership or management role
• Demonstrated ability to set technical vision and deliver complex, data-intensive software projects
• Prominent experience leading full-stack software development teams, especially in modern web applications
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience with Django and bioinformatics tools
