Director Safety Services

Primary Work Location: Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, Department CS Facility Management & Construction. Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40.

About the Role

The Director of Safety Services leads the Security team, ensures all safety programs are effective and up-to-date, and assists department heads and administration with enforcing safety regulations and codes. This role maintains required records and promotes ongoing growth and development through self-reflection, competency development, and role modeling leadership competencies.

Responsibilities

• Leads the Security team, with the Security Manager as a direct report.
• Measures and evaluates the effectiveness of the safety program using established goals.
• Develops and recommends new procedures and approaches to safety and loss prevention based on incident reports and relevant information.
• Creates system policies for safety and emergency management procedures.
• Disseminates information on toxic/hazardous waste, safe medical devices, emergency preparedness, and other safety topics to department heads and staff.
• Assesses and initiates Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) and enforces NFPA 101 life safety code.
• Assists department heads and administration in enforcing safety regulations and codes.
• Develops, reviews, and participates in safety training for hospital staff, including new employee orientation and department-specific in-services.
• Acts as a reporting member to the RCH Environment of Care and Emergency Management committees, presenting findings, recommendations, and monitoring updates at least quarterly.
• Maintains administrative records related to safety and health programs, prepares reports, and disseminates memos.
• Plans, coordinates, and oversees asbestos control as needed.
• Directs the OSHA-required hazard communication program, including maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS), assisting with annual chemical inventories, and providing SDS training.
• Acts as a liaison with Federal, State, and Local public safety and emergency management agencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field (required).
• Master’s degree in a health-related field (preferred).
• 5+ years of experience in Security/Safety (preferred).

Physical Requirements

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, with negligible force constantly required to move objects.
