Position Summary

The Director of Safety at Power Contracting is responsible for developing and implementing safety policies and programs, fostering a positive safety culture, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Recommend improvements to safety programs and program processes.
  • Develops loss reduction strategies across the division.
  • Aids in ensuring all safety manuals, programs, policies, and practices are current.
  • Consensus building, motivation, and encouragement of others.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing (creating accurate and timely reports, delivering presentations).
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Ensures completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Enforces stop authorization for all operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.
  • Reviews accident and incident reports.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least five years of occupational health and safety experience in the electric utilities industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work). The employee may be subject to one or more of the following atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
