About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Safety Director to join our team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees and the communities we serve. The Safety Director organizes, coordinates, and maintains Health, Safety, & Training activities, including training and compliance, for the respective Operating Area. This position directs Safety Managers and Representatives and assumes a lead role with other Safety Directors within United Utility Power Services. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Responsibilities
- Directs work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with company, state, and federal safety policies and regulations.
- Develop and promote a culture that delivers safe workers and a safe workplace.
- Implement accident prevention activities as directed or needed.
- Act as the technical resource in the respective Operating Area for safety issues.
- Conduct safety orientation and training in a timely, professional manner; deliver quality presentations.
- Conduct accident investigations on time.
- Assist in injury/illness case management to avoid injuries becoming OSHA recordable.
- Prioritize internal and external customer service.
- Assist Operating Area management in executing safety responsibilities and making safety efforts successful.
- Provide positive, proactive leadership by example.
- Recommend safety improvement and accident prevention methods.
- Work with Operating Area management to integrate safety into daily work procedures.
- Complete new hire orientation, ensuring all required paperwork is given to the safety administrator for record retention.
- Serve as the Operating Area Safety Committee Chairperson.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in the utility field.
- Minimum of 5-8 years' safety experience in the construction industry.
- Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and EPA laws and regulations.
- Current valid driver's license.
- Able to travel regularly with overnights as needed.
- Flexibility to work additional hours/weekends as required.
- Strong supervisory/management, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- A recognized safety certification (CSP or CUSP preferred).
Nice-to-Haves
- Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $150,000.00–$160,000.00. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.
Location
Lanham, MD; Lathem, NY; Commerce City, CO; Remote option for well-qualified candidates.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements
This position is primarily office-based with occasional field visits to distribution facilities and job sites. Field work may involve walking on uneven terrain, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, and the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE). Travel is expected to be limited and based on project needs.
