Role
A-PAG is looking for a Director to lead its work across a set of states and drive real, measurable progress against air pollution over the next 3 to 5 years. This role works closely with A-PAG's senior leadership, government officials, State Pollution Control Boards, and other partners to help solve the air pollution crisis on the ground. The role reports directly to the CEO, and the right candidate can grow into the Chief Operating Officer role within about two years.
Responsibilities
- Develop the state strategy: study air pollution issues in the state and recommend the right action plan, using City Action Plans and data to decide which actions to prioritise, working closely with the strategy team in Delhi.
- Led government engagement: build and manage strong working relationships with senior government officials, from Chief Secretaries to Municipal Commissioners, so A-PAG is seen as a trusted and effective partner.
- Drive project management: set up strong project management practices across the team to make sure programs are delivered on time and with the right quality.
- Lead and grow the team: manage state-based teams (ranging from 4 to 9 members today), including hiring the right people and keeping the team motivated.
- Manage partnerships: work with technical partners who bring in specialised expertise needed to drive action in the state.
Requirements
- Master's degree in a relevant field such as business, development sector management, environmental studies, or public policy, with a strong academic record.
- At least 18 years of work experience in a managerial role, with a strong track record of delivering projects and building relationships.
- Experience working with government is a plus, but not required.
- Experience in the environment or air pollution space is preferred, but a genuine passion for solving India's air pollution crisis matters just as much.
- Strong ability to get things done on the ground, and to work with and influence senior government officials.
- Proven experience leading and motivating large teams, with solid project management skills to keep programs on track.
- Willingness to learn quickly, since air pollution is a fast-changing field with new knowledge coming in all the time.
Benefits
