About Us

Toray Advanced Composites (TAC) is a leading supplier of advanced composite materials for the aerospace, sporting goods, motorsport, and industrial markets. You will find our thermoset composite products on nearly every satellite, space launch vehicle, unmanned aircraft, military and commercial aircraft in production today. TAC also provides composites materials to industrial and recreational applications including mountain bikes, medical prosthetics, and sports equipment. Our thermoplastic prepregs, known in the industry as Cetex®, are found in a wide range of commercial and military aircraft, including large wing structures and interior applications like seats and galleys.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The Director of Quality will be responsible for leading and facilitating Toray’s TAC QA Systems and Lab activities across our 3 US locations. The Director will play an active role for the department by supporting the quality mission and focus on areas of improvement to ensure quality of products. As the quality director, this person will lead the strategic planning, coordination of Compliance, Risk Management, Quality, Improvement, and Innovation initiatives to our Aerospace and Defense products.

Major Duties and Requirements

  • Serve as an executive and technical leader with responsibility for strategic planning, coordinating, and directing Compliance, Risk Management, Quality, Improvement, and Innovation initiatives to our Aerospace and Defense products.
  • Support the quality mission and focus on areas of improvement to ensure quality of products.
  • Partner with functional leaders across the organization to integrate “Built In Quality” into all levels and activities.
  • Serve as the advisor for government requirements regarding matters of compliance, risk management, safety, and quality for operations.
  • Develop and implement Advanced Quality Systems and quality control processes and procedures to ensure product quality and reliability.
  • Use data driven tools like Statistical Analysis, Statistical Process Control, capability analysis and Six Sigma to solve problems and promote critical thinking.
  • Ensure strategies/management systems are in place and ensure product quality meets the expectations of customers and stakeholders.
  • Must have a “Gemba Mindset” making frequent visits to the production and Quality Test lab areas building to build trust and encourage a quality mindset at the place work happens.
  • Plan, budget and execute resource needs to maintain an efficient but effective department for the both the lab and systems.
  • Responsible for the coaching and mentoring of the managers and supervisors in the Quality organization to ensure continued growth and development of a succession plan
  • Manage compliance to AS9100 and NADCAP certifications, including all aspects of the Quality Management system.
  • Responsible for internal audits, annual compliance and sustaining audits
  • Conduct quality audits and supplier evaluations to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Administer the document control and configuration management system.
  • Follow-up on and drive closure of Preventive and Corrective Action Request
  • Organize and coordinate the Material Review Board through the Catsweb system
  • Ensure that customer requests for Cause and Corrective Action are responded to in a timely manner and closed out to the customer’s satisfaction.
  • Support management in establishing and measuring process performance standards associated with quality, waste/throughput, customer satisfaction and productivity.
  • Develop and implement training programs to improve quality awareness and skills across the organization.
  • Provide input to operational reviews and other efforts leading to process improvements and cost reduction activities.
  • Support investigations and resolve operational non-conformances and customer related issues.
  • Participate in customer site audits and visits to Toray, support targeted projects in Toray or customer shops.
  • Work with leadership to drive the site goals and ensure the safe and environmentally sound performance of the site operations.
  • The goal is to ensure that corporate and regulatory requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Work with leadership, implement actions that contribute to the goal of achieving financial targets, such as, productivity, throughput, and scrap levels and earnings.
  • Responsible for effectively managing, leading and creating/maintaining accountability of the Quality Department and team.
  • Achieve organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Serve as the point of contact for any escalations and provide support when needed to other TAC locations.

Experience and/or Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science or related field required.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience working in quality implementation and management system ideally with composites or manufacturing.
  • Experience in an Aerospace focused organization combined with a demonstrated track-record of accomplishments as a Quality Assurance Manager or Supervisor
  • Experience with satisfying customers in technology-driven, progressive company.
  • Experience with FAA and international Quality System rules, regulations, including planning and implementation preferred.
  • Proven track record of leveraging continuous improvement and Kaizen methodologies to deliver business results.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly (written and verbally) in English.
  • Able to work and communicate with multiple teams.
  • Able to motivate teams to produce high quality work product within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Proven leadership abilities, decisiveness in initiating actions.
  • Able to develop, coach and motivate a team.
  • Able to take initiative, to maintain confidentiality, to meet deadlines, and to work in a team environment.
  • PC-based computing experience (Word, Excel, Power Point, documentation s/w) essential.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills.
  • Strong Process Orientation.
  • Maintain work areas in a neat, orderly and safe manner.
  • Follow safety procedures for PPE (personal protection equipment).
  • Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds occasionally.

Compensation

$175,000 - $205,000 yearly
