Works cross-functionally to develop partnership strategies for clinical trials and programs and collaborates closely with project teams to provide oversight, strategic expertise, and coordination in planning and delivering all activities for designated clinical study projects. Ensures project objectives for quality, scope, cost, and time are met.
Responsibilities
- Direct, manage, and ensure collaboration within a team of Project Directors and Project Managers for planning, execution, and governance of global projects/portfolios.
- Provide leadership and oversight on clinical programs; manage activities in unique cases.
- Serve as the primary point of escalation for study sponsors beyond project management.
- Optimize profitability of the Project Management organization to meet or exceed budget targets.
- Assess and manage resource allocations to meet established cost, time, and quality goals.
- Select, train, develop, and manage performance of project leadership personnel (Project Directors and Project Managers).
- Provide technical support and guidance, including scope definition, risk identification, escalation, mitigation, resource planning, goals, and deliverables to assigned project managers.
- Identify and escalate impacts to project scope, resources, schedule, or budget through standard methods.
- Ensure project leadership personnel maintain the highest quality standards and compliance with SOPs, working guidelines, project plans, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate with Business Development in opportunity development, proposals, budgeting, bid defense preparation, and attendance.
- Understand and manage project/program interdependencies to achieve milestones and deliverables.
- Conduct evaluations and implement required changes for all projects, including mid-project recovery of at-risk projects, re-scoping, postponement, or cancellation.
- Measure and report KPIs and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Recognize, exemplify, and adhere to company values centered on quality, people, clients, and performance.
- Manage workload of supervised staff with ongoing assessment and adjustment.
- Provide ongoing feedback, development, and coaching, including annual performance reviews for Project Directors and Project Managers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/experience in science or a health-related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in clinical research, including extensive project management and line management experience.
- Working knowledge of GCP/ICH guidelines and the clinical development process.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Project.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Customer service demeanor and ability to travel domestically and internationally, including overnight stays.

- Working knowledge of project management techniques and tools.

Pay
Reasonable estimate of the current compensation range: $162,000 USD - $243,000 USD.
