About the role

We’re seeking a strategic and operational leader to serve as the Director of Product Management, SAP Integrations & Tax Technology. In this high-profile role, you will lead a specialized team of senior individual contributors—consisting of Connector Product Managers (PMs) and Tax Technologists (TTs)—who own the strategy, delivery, and real-world implementation success of our SAP integrations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a High-Performing Team: Manage, mentor, and grow a team of senior Product Managers and Tax Technologists, ensuring clear role accountability, alignment on goals, and frictionless collaboration.
  • Drive Product Strategy & Roadmaps: Oversee the strategic direction for our SAP connectors. Ensure your PMs are effectively defining roadmaps, prioritizing initiatives based on business value, and executing against the Plan of Record (POR).
  • Ensure Implementation Reality: Empower your Tax Technologists to embed in customer and partner implementation workstreams, connecting product intent with real-world execution and identifying recurring patterns in complex deployments.
  • Drive Cross-Functional Alignment: Serve as the leadership bridge across Engineering, Technical Program Management (TPMs), partner teams, and Support. Resolve escalations and ensure decision clarity between product scope and deployment realities.
  • Own Business Outcomes: Define and track KPIs for the SAP integration domain. Own the accuracy of leadership reporting (SteerCo and Operational Dashboards) and present clear updates on delivery outcomes and business value.
  • Customer & Partner Engagement: Act as an escalation point for product-level customer issues. Partner with Strategic Partner Managers (SPMs) to align Avalara roadmaps with SAP’s ecosystem roadmaps.
  • Foster Continuous Improvement: Ensure insights gathered from the field by TTs are explicitly incorporated into the product prioritization discussions led by PMs, preventing rework and driving higher product quality.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in enterprise SaaS product management, tax technology, or software integrations, with at least 10+ years in a people leadership role managing senior individual contributors.
  • Deep Domain Expertise: Strong understanding of ERP ecosystems, specifically SAP, S4Hana (Public & Private), ECC, BTP, and the complexities of enterprise software deployments and integrations.
  • Proven execution: Demonstrated success in owning product strategy, roadmap delivery, and driving measurable business impact (KPIs, revenue, adoption).
  • Operational Leadership: Experience defining clear roles, decision-making frameworks (e.g., RACI), and operating cadences for multidisciplinary teams.
  • Customer-Centric Execution: A track record of bridging the gap between high-level product strategy and the reality of complex, on-the-ground customer implementations.
  • Exceptional Communication: Strong storytelling and stakeholder management skills; able to align executive leadership, engineering, and external partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Business, Computer Science, Finance, etc.); advanced degrees are a plus.

Qualifications

  • Experience using AI and AI-related technologies, ready to thrive here.
  • Embrace AI as an essential capability and apply it every day to business challenges - improving efficiency, contributing solutions, and driving results for your team, our company, and our customers.

Skills

  • Strategic thinking and execution.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to manage cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with ERP ecosystems, especially SAP.
  • Proven ability to drive business outcomes through product strategy and roadmap delivery.

  • Total Rewards: Great compensation package, paid time off, and paid parental leave.
  • Health & Wellness Benefits: Vary by location but generally include private medical, life, and disability insurance.
  • Inclusive Culture and Diversity: Avalara strongly supports diversity, equity, and inclusion, and is committed to integrating them into our business practices and organizational culture.
