Director, Product Management - Data Intelligence Foundation
Job Description
The Director of Product Management, Data Intelligence Foundation is responsible for owning the full product management layer across multiple engineering orgs, including Files/Natives, Ontology/Relationship, Data Capabilities, Knowledge/Metadata, and Query Plane. Key responsibilities include defining the substrate for legal data accessibility, designing an API contract, contributing to engineering scope decisions, and articulating trade-offs in a data consistency model.
Files / Natives: Define the storage primitive for legal documents, images, and native files, ensuring consistent accessibility across all products, partner integrations, and AI workflows with appropriate SLAs, access contracts, and API surfaces.
Ontology / Relationship: Develop the semantic layer that encodes meaning, defining entities, relationships, and contracts that provide a shared vocabulary for legal data to AI agents.
Data Capabilities: Build the operational backbone for observability, auditability, and explainability, ensuring these non-negotiable properties are met in legal data intelligence use cases.
Knowledge / Metadata: Evolve the core data model to serve AI application teams as first-class consumers alongside legacy users, making it a unified materialized document layer consistent across all workspaces.
Query Plane: Optimize the performance-sensitive and strategically important service, creating a unified retrieval pillar with a rich materialized document layer, standardized ingestion APIs, hybrid retrieval, chunking, and tiered storage.
Minimum Qualifications
12+ years in product management; 5+ years leading platform or infrastructure PM organizations.
Deep fluency with data platform primitives, including storage systems, metadata layers, knowledge graphs, query engines, or equivalent.
Ability to design an API contract, contribute to engineering scope decisions, and articulate trade-offs in a data consistency model.
Demonstrated ability to manage and build a PM team through hiring, leveling, and establishing product practice for a new domain.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or Design, or comparable work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building at companies where the data platform is the product, not a supporting system.
Experience building for AI systems, agents, or ML pipelines as primary consumers.
Understanding of what a model needs from data that a human doesn't, and designing for both.
Ways of Working
Engineering credibility is paramount. Regular technical discussions with skilled and knowledgeable engineering leaders are expected.
Establish organizational cadence, including forum structure, planning cadence, and decision frameworks, to enable the team to move with velocity and alignment.
Define how internal teams discover, integrate, and get value from platform services, and measure adoption of the Foundational Layer.
Build PM capability by leveling people up while running at speed, and cross-functionally influence without authority, making the new path clearly better and bringing teams along through clarity, evidence, and trust.
Make good decisions with incomplete information and update them when required, especially when several primitives are being defined as engineering teams build.
Internalize why defensibility, chain of custody, and auditability are first-class design requirements.
Compensation
Competitive base salary, annual performance bonus, and long-term incentives. The expected salary range for this role is between $188,000 and $282,000, with the final offer based on factors including experience, skill set, qualifications, and internal pay equity.
