About the role

The Director of Product Engineering will lead the technical direction of a portfolio of development efforts for server and storage products, ensuring alignment with customer needs, factory capabilities, and service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and manage the delivery of a portfolio of development efforts for new and sustaining programs for server and storage products.
  • Organize teams and drive solutions for multiple, complex problems cross-functionally and within various areas of technical expertise (hardware, software, firmware, performance, interoperability, etc.).
  • Apply the right level of execution discipline and engineering rigor to all technical program deliverables – lead by example.
  • Make key decisions with respect to quality and features that may impact customer experience.
  • Influence individuals, teams, and executives to support the delivery of programs within schedule, scope, and budget boundaries.
  • Understand how technical decisions impact the broader business, factories, and customers and use these insights to lead the broader organization to optimized outcomes.
  • Communicate complex issues in simple, actionable terms at all levels within the organization.
  • Develop, grow, and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships with peers, team members, executive leadership, customers, and external partners.
  • Maintain team competencies in current technology and design trends, continually evaluating staffing levels, and recruiting world-class engineering talent.
  • Identify individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Identify creative ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes and systems.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 10-15 years of experience in an engineering product development environment working with a portfolio of products with enterprise server, storage, or networking experience is required.
  • A minimum of 4+ years of experience directly managing an engineering team is required.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional product development and program management skills.
  • Expert understanding of Agile and phase gate development methods with the ability to drive organizational transformation.
  • Deep experience in process development and process improvement.
  • Ability to lead the development of complex processes spanning multiple functions and areas of expertise.
  • Prior end-to-end development experience spanning architecture, engineering design, test and sustaining.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
