Director, Product Building

Camunda · Atlanta, GA · 3 days ago
RemoteRemoteMarketing$228k–$368k/yrFull-time

About the role

Camunda is building out a new sub-division, Camunda Experience, that owns the entire experience layer sitting on top of our orchestration cluster API: the Camunda Hub (managing and sharing process assets, collaborative modeling), our Clients and SDKs, the AI-native builder experience and AI skills, the frontend web apps used to operate and manage human tasks, and our integrations with business applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Camunda Experience sub-division end-to-end: ~25 people across multiple pods (~3 builders per pod), with 3 Pod Leads reporting into you, and own the business outcomes of the entire experience layer (Hub, Clients/SDKs, AI-native builder experience, AI skills, Orchestration Cluster web apps, business application integrations).
  • Establish and run the new Builder operating model: define the governance, rituals, quality bar, and forums that make Builder pods work in practice - one role holding product, design, and engineering judgment together, validating with customers, and shipping in days rather than months.
  • Ship the first wave of Builder outcomes: a revised Camunda Hub for managing and sharing process assets and collaborative modeling, and the AI-native builder experience, with clear customer-visible value released iteratively.
  • Design the organizational architecture of the domain: pod boundaries, scopes, interfaces, and ownership seams across Hub, Clients/SDKs, AI-native builder, human-task surfaces, and business app integrations - so problem discovery, solution definition, implementation, and support scale cleanly.
  • Shape long-term strategy in partnership with Strategy PMs: turn directional bets (e.g., "best builder experience for agentic orchestration") into a concrete domain thesis, sequencing, and investment logic, and feed evidence from the pods back into company-level strategy.
  • Own AI-first production line engineering for the domain: enforce the AI-first repo blueprint (structurally invariant codebases, layering, interfaces), invest in reusable agent context and skills, shared CI/CD and platform capabilities, and a clear governance model for standards vs. local flexibility - so every pod can operate as a high-throughput AI-first production line.
  • Create the conditions for sustainable maintenance and support at scale: clarify ownership boundaries, balance feature work against product health, and protect long-term reliability and credibility as adoption of Hub, SDKs, and AI-native surfaces grows.

Requirements

10+ years in product building leadership, including managing managers and owning business outcomes for a complex, user-facing product domain.

Proven track record designing the operating model of a domain, not just running one (pod topology, interfaces, governance, quality bar).

You have led a team that ships end-to-end (from discovery to production), using AI as the execution model, not just as a personal productivity tool.

Deep, hands-on fluency with AI-first product building - shipped real customer-facing software with AI as the execution layer.

Strong design taste and craft bar that you personally hold and raise across the teams you lead.

Close to the customer: regularly in customer conversations yourself, decisions grounded in direct user evidence.

Shapes strategy with Strategy/Product leaders, not just executes it.

Thrives in a fully remote, global, async, high-ownership environment.

Qualifications

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a Product Builder / Product Engineer / Design Engineer style model (still emerging in the market — plus, not expectation).
  • Background in developer tools, enterprise B2B platforms, or low-code / pro-code builder products.
  • Familiarity with BPMN, process orchestration, or Camunda 8.
  • Led a major operating-model or AI-native transformation without losing delivery momentum.
