Director, Population Health Communications
About the role
The Director, Population Health Communications is an experienced communications professional who leads all paid, earned, and owned external communications for the newly created Population Health Center of Excellence. This role strategizes and collaborates with stakeholders to develop and execute communications plans, connecting them with other projects and priorities. The Director works closely with internal and external teams to lead strategic communication campaigns, change management efforts, and cultural engagement initiatives, while developing innovative ways to engage employees and inspire action.
This expert communicator provides strategic direction in elevating brand reputation, designing organizational communication strategies, and collaborating with diverse partners to strengthen internal and external relationships through storytelling and awareness-building.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary external communications partner to the Vice President and Head of Population Health Center of Excellence (CoE), supporting the launch of the new CoE and contributing to Genentech’s 2030 goal of treating an additional 80,000 underserved patients.
- Lead the creation of an integrated external communications, thought leadership, and social media/digital storytelling plan, including all content development.
- Develop a clear and compelling narrative around the mission, vision, and impact of Population Health at Genentech, advising the VP and Head of the CoE on external engagement efforts.
- Spearhead all media relations efforts for the Population Health CoE.
- Bridge enterprise-wide partner functions and serve as a key communications advisor.
- Direct and oversee external agencies and partners (e.g., media, creative, logistics, and production) to ensure high-quality deliverables and collateral.
- Build awareness and maintain a presence at cross-functional forums, including national meetings, town halls, career fairs, and roadshows.
- Comply with all laws, regulations, and policies governing Genentech’s activities.
- Participate in business travel as required for internal and external meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, public relations, marketing, communications, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of communications or public relations experience, with several years in the biopharmaceutical or related industry.
- Extensive experience in communications design and advanced presentation development.
- High proficiency in Google Suite and Apple products.
- Proven ability to develop and implement communication strategies in collaboration with diverse teams.
- Demonstrated experience providing strategic communications counsel to senior leaders, orchestrating high-visibility executive presentations, and developing brand identity.
- Experience engaging high-performance teams and developing innovative communication platforms.
- Ability to design and implement communication efforts that engage and inspire employees at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree.
- Experience driving core business and corporate-level strategies, objectives, and communications.
- Previous corporate communications, communications agency, or marketing experience.
- Experience with collective leadership, stakeholder management, change communications, and adaptability with an enterprise mindset.
Location
This role is based in South San Francisco, CA (strongly preferred), though remote candidates outside the Bay Area may be considered.
Pay
The expected salary range for this position in California is $141,800/yr to $263,300/yr. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
