About the Job

The Director- People Business Partner Corporate & Stores at Pacsun is responsible for working closely with department leaders to execute strategic HR plans, creating a best place to work environment, and balancing strategic partnership with hands-on execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to senior leaders and field leadership, aligning people strategies with business objectives and operational priorities.
  • Lead organizational design and workforce planning efforts across Corporate and Stores, partnering with leadership on team structures, succession planning, talent movement, and headcount strategy.
  • Partner closely with Store Leadership to support field talent strategies, retention efforts, leadership capability, and employee engagement across a multi-location retail environment.
  • Provide strategic coaching to leaders on performance management, leadership effectiveness, employee engagement, and organizational health.
  • Lead and resolve complex and high-risk employee relations matters, conducting objective investigations and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive enterprise-wide talent and performance initiatives, ensuring consistency, accountability, and a high-performance culture across teams and locations.
  • Partner with leadership to identify organizational gaps, retention risks, and capability needs, developing actionable solutions that support long-term business success.
  • Support and lead change management efforts tied to organizational evolution, business transformation, and growth initiatives.
  • Act as a culture champion, helping foster inclusive, engaging, and high-performing environments where employees feel valued and connected to the Pacsun brand and purpose.
  • Lead engagement action planning and culture initiatives designed to strengthen employee experience and retention.
  • Utilize people metrics and insights, including turnover, engagement, and organizational trends, to influence business decisions and recommend solutions.
  • Champion leadership development initiatives that strengthen management capability across both headquarters and field teams.
  • Lead and develop members of the People team, providing direction, coaching, prioritization, and support across day-to-day People operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Partner closely with Store Leadership and cross-functional partners to ensure consistent execution of People programs, policies, and practices across all locations.
  • Oversee key People operational functions including HRIS administration, onboarding, personnel files, immigration authorization/I-9 compliance, unemployment claims, and employment verifications.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations across Corporate and Store populations.
  • Partner with the Head of People on the development and execution of enterprise People programs, initiatives, and organizational priorities.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives that enhance scalability, efficiency, compliance, and employee experience across the People function.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with external People-related vendors and partners, including HR systems, learning & development providers, and engagement platforms.
  • Operate with the highest level of conduct, integrity, and confidentiality, setting the example for leaders and associates.
  • Develop and nurture strong cross functional partnerships; driving business results and inspiring a culture of transparency, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Serve as a Pacsun advocate in the industry and marketplace.
  • Recruit, identify, develop, and retain talent that delivers performance excellence.
  • Ability to balance a strong management presence with a high level of approachability, encouraging and eliciting associate feedback and interaction.

What it takes to Join

  • College degree required
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience in a HR Business Partner or strategic People leadership role supporting both Corporate and Store populations; leadership experience required
  • Strong experience supporting multi-location retail environments and partnering closely with field leadership teams
  • Demonstrated expertise in organizational design, workforce planning, leadership coaching, employee relations, and change management
  • Proven ability to influence at all levels of the organization and build strong cross-functional relationships
  • Strong experience managing medium to high-risk employee relations matters and conducting complex investigations
  • Demonstrated success leading scalable People initiatives, improving processes, and reducing operational friction across HR programs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and present people-related data and insights
  • Exceptional communication, executive presence, and interpersonal skills
  • Highly adaptable with the ability to operate effectively in a fluid, fast-paced, and evolving retail environment
  • Experience with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications preferred; UKG experience is a plus
  • PHR or SPHR certification through HRCI preferred

Salary Range

$154,000 - $184,010

  • Ability to work on computer and mobile phone for multiple hours; with frequent interruptions
  • Required to travel in elevator or stairwells to attend meetings and engage with associates on multiple floors throughout building
  • Travel may be required

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. As a National Retailer, occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required during periods of high volume. This role operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
