Job Summary

The Director, Pediatrics is responsible for improving pediatric care quality and operational efficiencies across Chase Brexton sites. This includes clinical guidance, interdisciplinary collaboration, and supervision of pediatricians.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Collaborates with medical directors, directors of operations, and directors of nursing to ensure clinical quality, patient flow, and financial sustainability.
    • Provides direction on pediatric issues and serves as a primary clinical consultant.
    • Represents Chase Brexton to medical and patient communities, and promotes child health and well-being.
    • Develops and maintains connections with local pediatric care organizations and residency programs.
    • Recruits and retains child health providers, supports their professional development, and fosters cultural competence.
    • Collaborates with Population Health to interpret and use health statistics and data to improve care delivery and equity.
    • Participates in internal planning processes to expand health care services and operations.
    • Supports integration of pediatric clinical services with other Chase Brexton disciplines, including behavioral health and dental.
    • Leads monthly pediatrics meetings and participates in grant applications and execution.
  • Performance Management
    • Directs and oversees pediatricians and guides all providers caring for children and adolescents.
    • Supervises clinicians caring for children and adolescents (NP, PA, physician) including conducting chart audits and performing peer review audits.
    • Assists in the supervision of clinicians caring for children and adolescents (NP, PA, physician).
  • Resource, Staff, and Budgets
    • Hires and manages team members while coaching for development opportunities.
    • Effectively interviews, onboards, and orients new pediatric providers.
  • Compliance, Policy, and Procedures
    • Works with Medical Directors, Directors of Operations, and Directors of Nursing in continuous readiness and implementation of Joint Commission standards.
    • Participates in important organizational initiatives such as PCMH and Meaningful Use.
    • Initiates and completes clinical quality improvement activities, including counseling clinicians about performance and compliance issues.
  • Communication
    • Attends internal committees and teams as requested.
    • Serves as liaison between pediatricians and other staff.
    • Liaison to organizational committees as appropriate.
    • Liaison to other internal Chase Brexton departments.

    • Demonstrates professionalism and integrity in all aspects of administrative work and patient care.

  • Education And/Or Experience Required
    • MD or DO with successful completion of an accredited residency program and current Board Certification.
    • Experienced pediatrician with at least 3 years (5 preferred) of clinical experience and demonstrated leadership skills and potential.
    • Appropriate Maryland licensure and clinical certification.
    • Interest in and/or experience in community health settings.
    • Experience working in a diverse environment.
    • Excellent communication and team skills required.
