Director, Office of Ethnic Ministries
About the role
The Office of Ethnic Ministries is seeking a Director to work at the Pastoral Center. The Director of Ethnic Ministries focuses on the pastoral, sacramental, devotional, linguistic, cultural, and communal support of ethnic groups within the diocese, to include Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islanders and Native American communities. The Director seeks to foster the vision of intercultural diversity, and encourages the journeying together as brothers and sisters, strengthening the unity of the Body of Christ. The Director helps these communities celebrate their faith by recognizing feast days and honoring the contributions of ethnic communities to the life of the Church, assisting parishes to flourish in faith and communion. The Director provides a diocesan connection for the pastoral needs of the various ethnicities within the diocese in collaboration with other diocesan offices. This individual serves on the Bishop’s Cabinet.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in theology, ministry, or social sciences is preferred
- Professional work experience in a human service setting
- Experience working with ethnic groups
- Capable of acting as a generalist in Asian/Pacific Islanders and Native American ministries and a specialist in Hispanic culture/ministries
- Leadership abilities in community organizing, working with volunteers, program management, planning and administration
- Interpersonal-relational skills in communication, collaboration, facilitation of meetings with diverse groups of people
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Fluency in Spanish and English (verbal and written)
- A practicing Catholic in good standing with an excellent understanding of Catholic Church teaching and Church structure
Working Conditions
- Full-time, exempt position
- Regular evening and weekend responsibilities
- Primarily based at the Pastoral Center with regular travel throughout the Diocese and occasional out-of-state travel
- Frequent interaction with clergy, diocesan leadership, parish representatives, civic leaders, and members of the public
- Standard work week following the Pastoral Center schedule of Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (35 hours per week)

- Light physical effort required
- Regularly required to sit for extended periods, stand, walk, reach, bend, lift, listen, talk and perform computer keyboarding
- May need to transport items weighing up to 25 pounds
- Required to drive Diocesan vehicles to events
