Director of Triple Lease Accounting

About the role

This is a high-visibility position for a seasoned accounting leader who thrives at the intersection of technical rigor, operational excellence, and strategic impact. You will shape scalable processes, drive automation, and provide clear, actionable insights to senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the accounting operations for the triple-net lease portfolio, including monthly close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Oversee the application of ASC 842 lease accounting standards, ensuring accurate recognition, measurement, and disclosure of lease-related activity.
• Direct loan accounting activities, including interest, principal, and related reporting requirements across the portfolio.
• Develop, maintain, and oversee CECL models and related internal controls for portfolio credit loss estimation.
• Own the design, documentation, and execution of SOX-compliant internal controls related to lease, loan, and portfolio accounting.
• Drive reporting automation and systems enhancements to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of the accounting function.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, setting clear expectations, driving accountability, and building a culture of continuous improvement.
• Partner with executive leadership, auditors, and cross-functional stakeholders to communicate complex accounting matters and provide actionable business insights.

• Proven track record as a strong operational accountant balancing technical accounting, controls, SOX compliance, and timely execution.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop accounting teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Strong systems orientation with experience driving scalability, automation, and process improvement initiatives.
• Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to translate complex accounting issues into practical, business-focused insights.
• Able to work cross-functionally with finance, operations, legal, and executive leadership to support strategic initiatives and decision-making.

Desirable Skills

• Experience within REITs, real estate, or healthcare real estate environments.
• Background in public company accounting or reporting, including interaction with external auditors.
• Familiarity with portfolio accounting for complex investment structures.
• Exposure to financial reporting for regulated entities or highly leveraged portfolios.
• Experience implementing or optimizing enterprise financial systems and reporting tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Active CPA license required.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably including REITs, real estate, healthcare real estate, financial reporting, portfolio accounting, lease accounting, loan accounting, or public accounting.
• Strong knowledge of ASC 842 lease accounting and related reporting considerations.
• Experience with loan accounting and related reporting requirements.
• Experience developing, reviewing, or overseeing CECL models and related internal controls.
• Strong general ledger and financial systems experience, including reporting automation and process improvement.
• Experience with SOX controls, internal control documentation, and public company accounting or reporting requirements.
