Director of Teacher Pathways Team, TRQ - 26922
We are seeking a Director of Teacher Pathways Team to drive the strategy and vision for our teacher pathway programs and initiatives, including alternative certification teacher recruitment and the NYC Men Teach Mayoral Initiative. This role will expand our current portfolio of pathway programs and develop new opportunities, certifying new teachers through Grow Your Own Models.
About the Role
The Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality (TRQ) is responsible for recruiting diverse and talented teachers to meet the staffing needs of New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) and programs. TRQ focuses on equitable and quality distribution of teachers across all schools through strategic, data-driven efforts, including:
- Serving as the primary marketing agent and source of information for individuals seeking to become NYCPS public school teachers.
- Designing and managing recruitment pathways, especially for diversity, subject, and geographic shortage areas.
- Selecting a diverse and high-quality pool of candidates through rigorous, research-driven screening processes.
- Providing high-quality professional development and experiences for teacher candidates.
- Supporting schools with inclusive best practices for optimal hiring decisions.
- Leading candidates to teacher certification within communities to promote equitable distribution.
- Supporting new teachers with consistent onboarding experiences throughout their first year.
Our current pathway programs include a paraprofessional undergraduate teacher pathway, high school to teacher pathway, NYC Men Teach Summer Fellowship, Ed Prep, and alternative certification programs.
Responsibilities
- Act as an internal expert on education policy, including diversity in teacher recruitment, selection, preparation, job search, hiring support, and communications. Make recommendations to the leadership team on key policies.
- Drive the strategic vision for design and implementation of teacher pathway programs, alternative certification recruitment, and the NYC Men Teach Mayoral Initiative.
- Define, analyze, and evaluate metrics across programs to measure success and use data to improve programming and strategy.
- Collaborate with CUNY and other Institutions of Higher Education to expand program recruitment opportunities.
- Build comprehensive strategic plans to meet ambitious yearly goals, monitoring and adjusting strategies while managing a team toward outcomes.
- Cultivate partnerships with local community-based organizations to build robust teacher pathway programs.
- Design and implement mentoring programs in collaboration with the Young Men’s Initiative (YMI) and other NYCPS stakeholders to support retention of program participants.
- Expand and grow pathway programs to meet NYCPS teacher vacancy needs.
- Work across NYCPS departments and with the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) to plan and implement career ladder pathway programs, including high school to teacher and paraprofessional to teacher pathways.
- Conduct complex analyses to produce regular monthly narrative reports and quarterly data reports for internal evaluation and grant partners.
- Co-manage budget and grants.
- Manage teams across multiple workstreams and projects.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, educational psychology, educational leadership, public administration, public policy, social work, or a closely related field, and two years of full-time professional experience in education administration (e.g., portfolio planning, grants, student enrollment, program evaluation, policy research). At least 18 months must have been in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative, or supervisory capacity.
- Alternatively, a baccalaureate degree with four years of professional experience in the areas listed above, including 18 months in a supervisory capacity.
- Alternatively, a high school diploma or equivalent with six years of professional experience, including 18 months in a supervisory capacity.
- Undergraduate education may substitute for professional experience at the rate of 30 semester credits per year (up to 4 years). Graduate education in unrelated fields may substitute at the rate of 15 graduate credits for 6 months of experience (up to 1 year). All candidates must have 18 months of supervisory experience.

- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Superior public speaking and relationship management skills.
- Deep understanding of the education sector and New York State policies.
- Familiarity with New York State certification regulations and requirements.

Pay
$110,969 - $122,066. Internal candidates who currently hold comparable or less senior positions will not earn less than their current salary.
