About the role

The Director is responsible for the care given to patients within the critical care inpatient units; day to day departmental operations and productivity; future development and budgetary projections for the service line. The Director ensures the critical care inpatient units maintain the highest degree of efficiency and safety in providing quality care in all invasive and non-invasive procedures including quality improvement, staff competency, inventory control and cost containment, patient satisfaction, staff satisfaction, and physician satisfaction. The Director collaborates and coordinates the efforts of critical care staff to accomplish the mission of Las Palmas Medical Center. The Director leads by example and holds others accountable for adhering to the goals, policies, and procedures of Las Palmas Medical Center.

Core patient populations served

Acute medical/surgical care of diseases and conditions including but not limited to: cardiovascular, pulmonary, neuro, GI, GU, GYN, skeletal/muscular, renal, ortho conditions and diseases including but not limited to: AMI, CAD, PVD, CVA/TIA, COPD, CHF, shock, renal failure, metabolic disorders, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer pediatric, adult, geriatric and adolescent services as necessary to include nursery nursing care
  • Promote a multidisciplinary coordination of services, such as, nursing medical, respiratory care, laboratory, pharmaceutical and public relations
  • Develop, monitor, appraise and analyze budgetary goals and outcomes within the Medical Department
  • Administer and appraise Quality Improvement within the services provided
  • Control processes related to Human Resources; inclusive of hiring, evaluating, terminating, counseling, coaching and development of the staff
  • Direct and approve the practice of professional nursing and support positions within the services provided to maintain quality patient care through implementation and evaluation of clinical practice standards
  • Develop, interpret, inspect and review policies and procedures within the services provides
  • Develop, institute, review and implement Disaster Preparedness policies and procedures for the organization
  • Collaborate, develop and participate in marketing of the Department, including educational program development, external advertising and working in alliance with local and regional programs
  • Be responsible for twenty four-hour coverage and problem resolution to the services provided

Qualifications

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Registered Nurse
  • Bachelors Degree - Nursing
  • 3+ years' experience in critical care unit with 2+ years' experience in a supervisory/leadership position preferred
