Position Overview

The director leads the work of the Professional Development School Network (PDSN) and Office of Educator Preparation and Partnerships [EOPP] and Global Student Teaching Office. The director serves as the liaison to school districts wherever teacher candidates are placed as part of their clinical field experiences (e.g. student teaching, clinical practice, and graduate internships and practica). As director of the PDSN, they work with district liaisons to create mutually beneficial relationships with school districts. The districts offer field placements for teacher candidates and provide ongoing feedback on preparation programs and practices. As director of the PDSN, they oversee the Teachers as Scholars program, a professional development program for PDSN teachers. The OEPP director serves as the liaison school districts' superintendents as needed, both within and outside of the PDSN, and also serves as a member of the Dean's Leadership Team and Teacher Education Council. They also work with faculty to develop policies regarding field experiences and to enforce those policies. This includes meeting with students when remediation is needed. The director administers all aspects of the Global Student Teaching program, including forming partnerships with international schools, recruiting and interviewing applicants, placements, and maintaining this signature program. The OEPP director collaborates with the Director of Accreditation, Assessment and Programs to ensure the software used to track placements and assessment data is meeting the needs of the unit. The director oversees all professional development programs, the Clinical Teacher Academy, and professional development seminars.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the work of the OEPP office, which includes supervision of staff, overseeing all clinical placements, managing the Global Student Teaching Program, and managing a budget of approximately $.5 million (exclusive of employee salaries and benefits).
  • Direct the work of the Professional Development School Network, including implementing the Teachers as Scholars program.
  • Supervise the planning and implementation of seminars, professional development programs, and summer symposia.
  • Address student teacher issues, provide guidance to faculty on student issues, program requirements, and code changes.
  • Work with appropriate internal and external stakeholders to develop, approve, and implement new policies related to teacher preparation programs.
  • Work with external partners to develop and maintain relationships, including school district administrators, NJACTE, Mercer County Superintendents, NJDOE.
  • Develop new educator preparation programs in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Work with district partners to seek input and promote new programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Successful experience as teacher, principal, and school administrator.
  • Knowledgeable of school districts located in central New Jersey.
  • Knowledgeable of best practices in teaching and school administration and the management and operation of schools and school districts based on past performance.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to relate to students, staff, and school district personnel in the delivery of services to each constituency and is cooperative and collaborative with colleagues.
  • Demonstrates effective oral communication skills and can utilize technology effectively in the management of the program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
  • Ability to work with a variety of constituencies, students, faculty, support staff, and school district personnel.
  • Ability to foster a healthy, safe work environment that is professional, ethical, respectful, and collaborative.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate preferred.
