Position Details

The Graduate Center (GC) is the focal point for advanced teaching and research at the City University of New York (CUNY), the nation's largest urban public university. With over 35 doctoral and master’s programs of the highest caliber, the Graduate Center fosters pioneering research and scholarship in the arts and sciences and prepares students for careers in universities and the private, nonprofit, and government sectors. The Graduate Center’s commitment to research and scholarship for the public good is exemplified by its more than 30 centers, institutes, and initiatives, including its Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), a 200,000 square-foot facility in upper Manhattan, designed to promote collaboration among scientists in five areas of global research and innovation: nanoscience, photonics, structural biology, neuroscience, and environmental sciences.

About the Role

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is the Graduate Center's central administrative unit for overseeing GC-CUNY applications for, and awards of, governmental and foundation funding. The Office handles proposal preparation, submission, and administration for the entire GC Community including faculty and staff, Research Centers and Institutes, and students.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a liaison between the Principal Investigator (PI) and the Research Foundation/CUNY for post award activity and as the GC's representative in negotiations between the applicant and the sponsor concerning released time, space needs, overhead charges, financial procedures, university guarantees, university contributions, and other matters to be stipulated in a grant or contract.
  • Serves as the GC's institutional official authorized by the President to execute applications and awards.
  • Distributes monthly records of applications and awards to the President and Provost.
  • Communicates with students, faculty and staff in a timely manner.
  • Provides the Office of Institutional Advancement with monthly reports on grants that qualify as contributions.
  • Communicates with students, faculty and staff in a timely manner.
  • Provides information needed for the space reports that the Research Foundation utilizes in negotiating the GC's indirect cost rate with the US Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Compiles and submits the NSF Higher Education Research and Development survey.
  • Oversees the administration of the indirect cost return policy and establishment of individuals' accounts.
  • Oversees the completion of the personnel activity reports, which also impact negotiations for the GC indirect cost rate.
  • Serves as a member of the Graduate Council Committee on Research.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required, as well as a thorough knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements and grant and contract management.
  • Prior grants experience preferred.
  • Experience with the Cayuse Grants Management System for pre-Award processing preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Research Foundation's policies and procedures preferred.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel & Word, Cayuse, OneRF) preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills preferred.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines preferred.
  • Ability to work occasional weeknights and/or weekends preferred.
