Essential Job Duties

  • Lead a division of our product's software engineering team with a specialization in the Payroll Services domain.
  • Oversee multiple teams and manage engineering managers reporting directly to you.
  • Demonstrate leadership and patience through regular coaching and mentoring in individual and team settings.
  • Love coaching and mentoring Leaders.
  • Consult with leaders across Product Development (Product Design, Product Management, QA, and IT) to help your managers and tech leads explore and deliver software solutions.
  • Continually embrace accountability in team and individual performance (yours and others) in sprint goals and quarterly Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
  • Embrace and lead out in AI engineering practices, including how to build with AI and how to build AI into our products.
  • Work closely with architects and platform teams to understand technical/architectural hurdles in your team's scope and prioritize solutions and direction.
  • Participate in Engineering department’s hiring efforts.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of our systems and processes.

What You Need to Get the Job Done

  • 5+ years of heavy experience focused in payroll or financial operations.
  • 15+ years of experience in software development.
  • 10 + years of experience in SaaS and SMB.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated real-world Director-level / technical leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience applying AI and ML in a product development context, with a sound judgement about where and how these technologies create value.
  • MySQL/MSSQL - both query language and database structure/design.
  • Demonstrated leadership and directing experience in modernizing payroll SaaS systems.
  • Version control software, preferably Git.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

What Will Make Us REALLY Love You

  • Proficiency in documenting processes and monitoring performance metrics.
  • Knowledge and experience with internal business tools and how they affect how the software works.
  • Architectural, hands-on experience in Payroll Services
  • Architectural experience and expertise.
  • Services development in a language like PHP, Python, Java, or C#, and a desire to work in PHP (7.4+)
  • Experience in React, HTML, XML, JavaScript, CSS,
  • Experience in developing Software-as-a-Service (fast release cycles that still support an existing user base)
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related degree or formal training in a related field
