Director of Software Engineering

About the role

The Director of Software Engineering in our Foundations Engineering group will guide teams in delivering the company's long-term goals. They will develop strategies, review designs, influence the maturation of engineers, and foster a healthy team environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop a long-term strategy for your group, aligned with the company’s goals.
• Create and educate on standards, practices, and idioms for your teams.
• Educate on auditing, compliance, and security regimes relevant to services.
• Coach engineering managers on various aspects of team management.
• Monitor and improve the financial sustainability of services.

Requirements

• At least three years of experience as a directory or engineering manager on large-scale systems.
• Able to discern and apply beneficial concepts and patterns in different situations.
• Effectively communicate technical or abstract concepts to engineers and peers.
• Employ a decision-making process that allows for gathering data, weighing tradeoffs, and mitigating biases.
• Coach individuals in technical and non-technical skills.
• Proficient with the full development and deployment stack, including languages, inter-service communication, security, system performance, operational readiness, deployment, network, and cloud providers.

Qualifications

• Deep technical expertise (still comfortable writing and reviewing complicated code).
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to develop and execute a strategy.

Skills

• Leadership and management skills.
• Technical proficiency in multiple areas of software development.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with public company requirements, including Sarbanes-Oxley and key regulations.
