Director of Safety - Logistics

About the role

The Director of Safety will lead the company's efforts to enhance safety protocols, reduce preventable accidents, and improve overall operational performance. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role requires a hands-on approach to safety management and a proven track record of driving improvements in CSA scores and driver safety.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive safety policies and procedures
• Oversee the administration of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, HOS, and ELD regulations
• Coach drivers and conduct accident investigations
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with insurance providers to manage risk and reduce premiums
• Monitor and analyze safety metrics to identify areas for improvement
• Collaborate with operations and executive leadership to ensure alignment on safety initiatives
• Leverage AI tools to enhance reporting, communication, and training

Requirements

• 5+ years of Transportation Safety leadership within an asset-based trucking company
• Proven success improving CSA Scores and reducing preventable accidents
• Extensive experience with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, HOS, ELDs, Driver Qualification Files, and regulatory compliance
• Strong driver coaching and leadership experience
• Ability to analyze safety metrics and implement proactive improvement strategies
• Experience with Samsara, McLeod, and/or TenStreet
• Comfortable leveraging AI tools such as ChatGPT

Qualifications

• Former CDL driver (preferred but not required)
• Proven leadership skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Passion for safety and a commitment to continuous improvement

Pay

$110,000 - $130,000 Base + 10% Bonus
