About the role
Shaw Construction is a Colorado-based general contractor specializing in multifamily and workforce housing projects across the Front Range, Western Slope, and mountain markets. We're looking for a driven, experienced Safety Manager to lead and grow our company-wide safety program.
Responsibilities
- Develop and administer Shaw's safety program, including Hazard Communication and Chemical Inventory oversight
- Conduct preconstruction planning and Job Hazard Analysis for all projects
- Review subcontractor safety plans and assist in prequalification efforts
- Perform site safety audits alongside our outside Safety Consultant and/or insurance carrier representatives
- Lead OSHA investigations and formal site visits as needed
- Develop "lessons learned" from inspections and incorporate into ongoing training
- Coordinate and deliver safety orientation and training programs company-wide
- Ensure all employees are issued appropriate PPE at onboarding
- Compile quarterly and annual safety compliance reports for senior leadership
- Investigate and report Workers' Compensation and insurance claims
- Assist project teams with Storm Water Management and compliance
- Administer the motor vehicle record check program in partnership with our Corporate Resource Manager
- Oversee project-assigned safety personnel in collaboration with on-site PMs and Superintendents
- Travel approximately 30% per month to visit project sites across Colorado and surrounding markets
Requirements
- 4-year degree in Safety & Health or equivalent (preferred), plus 3+ years of safety experience in building construction-or a strong combination of education and field experience
- Working knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques
- Strong leadership, communication, and training skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Physical ability to access active construction sites (climbing ladders, stairs, hoists; lifting up to 75 lbs)
Qualifications
- Certification (preferred or willing to obtain): OSHA 30 (required) | Goal: OSHA 500
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager
