Director of Safety
About the Role
Under the leadership of the Senior Vice President, the Director of Safety will support operations in implementing HSE programs throughout the US and International Regions. The Director of Safety will work together with operations to develop and pursue the HSE objectives, targets, and overall HSE execution. The position will directly manage a dedicated HSE staff supporting regional operations, strategic corporate initiatives, incident management, and the continuous improvement of HMT's safety culture and capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Participate and Champion the HMT Safety Awareness Program (REACH)
- Conduct and document job site HSE Audits
- Analyze HSE Dashboards and develop HSE KPI's
- Ensure Regional HSE Managers are implementing the HSE programs within their regions
- Assure that all work is performed in compliance with HMT and customer requirements
- Assist operations by selecting standardized safety equipment and supplies
- Perform Accident/Near Miss Investigations and report findings to management
- Issue and recommend corrective actions
- Counsel and advise HMT employees in acceptable HSE requirements
- Provide Safety Training to HMT employees
- Review Project Contracts and Construction Letters to develop Project HSE Execution Plans
- Perform Project HSE Risk Assessments for projects
- Attend Project Kick-Off Meetings with Operations
- Manage HSE Personnel Development for direct reports
- Responsible for HMT Management System document development and reviews
- Manage assigned HSE Personnel Globally
- Oversee Global HSE Management for Shop and Field Activities
- Assist Sales with Safety Data and Present Safety Performance to Clients
- US and International Travel to Bahrain, United Kingdom, United States, Turkey, and Singapore as required
- Determine and lead optimal intercompany communications such as safety alerts and newsletters
- Other special projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Construction Safety Experience (Above Ground Storage Tanks)
- Experience working in a corporate HSE Management role
- Bachelor's Degree (BS Occupational Safety and Health preferred)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in HSE Management
- Incident Management and Investigation Experience
- Proficient in the use of MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI, etc.)

Travel
Approximately 15% of the time the role will require travel to ensure the field HSE implementation is effective and to meet with your team and operational leadership. Potential US and International Travel to Bahrain, Singapore, Turkey, London, and/or South Africa is expected to visit other offices, job sites, and HMT shops.
Interface/Contacts
Internal: Weekly contact with Regional US HSE Managers, International HSE personnel, and Operations. Regular communication with all Operations Management.
External: Potential contact with Client Safety Personnel, Client Representatives, Vendors, and Subcontractors as well as other Contractors on job sites.
