Director of Safety
About the role
The Director of Safety is responsible for leading and managing the overall safety program for Conti Civil LLC, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and company policies. This role involves overseeing the safety program, updating policies and practices, leading a team, analyzing trends, and delivering safety training.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the Company’s Safety Program and ensure projects are in compliance with OSHA, DOT, and all other federal, state, and local safety laws and standards.
- Continuously review and update safety policies and practices based on new regulations, industry best practices, technological advances, and lessons learned.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of safety professionals, ensuring consistency, accountability, and professional growth across the safety department.
- Analyze trends, perform research and implement tools, systems, and technologies that enhance, automate, and improve safety management processes.
- Organize, manage, and deliver safety training for employees at all levels, including hazard recognition, equipment safety, traffic control, excavation safety, and emergency response.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive safety leadership experience in heavy civil construction (road, bridge, and utility work required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, DOT standards, environmental compliance, and civil construction safety requirements.
- Professional safety certifications (CSP, CHST, OHST, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing safety teams and programs across multiple sites.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in safety management systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness to travel to company projects and offices, including routine travel to North Carolina every 6 weeks.
