Director of Revenue Accounting
About the role
The Director of Revenue Accounting is a senior technical leader responsible for end-to-end revenue recognition for Avid globally. This role requires a deep understanding of ASC 606 and GAAP, strong operational skills, and the ability to build a high-performing team.
Responsibilities
Technical Revenue Recognition Leadership: Serve as Avid’s primary technical authority on ASC 606, evaluate complex arrangements, and ensure compliance with GAAP.
Revenue Close & Reporting: Own the monthly and quarterly revenue close process, prepare SEC filings, and maintain internal controls.
Deal Desk & Commercial Partnership: Provide real-time guidance on revenue recognition during contract negotiations and educate sales teams on ASC 606 principles.
Internal Controls & SOX Compliance: Own key revenue-related internal controls, coordinate with internal audit, and ensure audit-readiness.
Team Leadership & Development: Lead and develop a revenue accounting team, drive process improvements, and partner with finance leadership on hiring and succession planning.
Systems, Process, & Special Projects: Lead RevPro enhancements, M&A due diligence, and carve-out accounting for deferred revenue.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA license required.
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and industry roles at publicly traded companies.
Deep expertise in ASC 606, including multi-element arrangements, SSP estimation, variable consideration, licensing, and SaaS/subscription models.
Experience managing a revenue accounting close process at a publicly traded company, including SEC disclosure preparation.
SOX controls experience—design, documentation, and operating effectiveness testing.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, ability to explain complex GAAP issues to non-accountant audiences.
Strong people leadership skills with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
Skills
Experience with RevPro, Zuora Revenue, or a comparable revenue management system.
M&A and integration experience, including deferred revenue step-down and purchase accounting.
Familiarity with IFRS 15 for international entity reporting.
Experience presenting to Audit Committees or CFOs on revenue accounting matters.
