Position Summary

The Director of Retail Business Development will be a key member of the retail leadership team, acting as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to senior leaders across North America. This role leads growth across national and regional retail accounts, and private label partnerships, through data-driven selling, strategic account management, and cross-functional commercial execution.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead sales strategy, including customer acquisition, account expansion, and annual revenue planning.
  • Translate market insights, category trends, and customer intelligence into actionable growth strategies.
  • Identify new market segments, strategic partnerships, and opportunities to drive long-term revenue.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Culinary/R&D, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Finance to ensure program readiness, feasibility, and successful execution.
  • Maintain strong, influential relationships within the segments that you serve, such as retail buyers, private label teams, supply chain partners, and co-manufacturing customers.
  • Manage key account portfolios with a focus on retention, profitability, and strategic partnership.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to customers, providing insights, solutions, and recommendations that support their category objectives.
  • Lead customer meetings, quarterly business reviews, and executive-level presentations.
  • Empower our sales team with the tools, knowledge and processes they need to excel.
  • Attend a wide variety of networking events, industry connected seminars, supplier events and any specific event where it is deemed appropriate networking potential benefiting both the new business target audience.
  • Understand and place in practice appropriate safety procedures.

Experience & Skills

  • 10+ years of experience in related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive sales experience within segments such as CPG, retail, private label, or co-manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated success managing national or regional retail accounts.
  • Proven ability to meet or exceed revenue targets consistently.
  • Experience presenting to senior leadership and customer decision makers.
  • Strong background in interpreting syndicated data and retail analytics.
  • Experience leading complex negotiations and multi-stakeholder commercial processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage a broad network of retail customer contacts to generate leads, negotiate partnerships, and drive profitable growth.
  • Excellent proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite Products.

Education

  • Average Bachelor's Degree or equivalent is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The base salary for this position ranges from a low of $169,744 to a maximum of $254.616, with offers typically between the low and middle of the range, based on education, skills, experience and internal equity among other factors.
  • This role is also eligible to participate in the company annual discretionary bonus plan based on company and individual performance.

Work Environment

  • Work is generally performed within a business professional office environment, with standard office equipment available.
  • Work conditions are typical of an office environment.
  • This role requires 30% domestic travel.
  • Position may require the physical agility of lifting up to 15 pounds.
  • Position may require frequent and/or infrequent of bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, stretching/reaching, use hands or fingers, talk, hear, feel objects, tools, controls and standing/walking on concrete flooring.
  • Position may require the physical ability to stand/walk for Less than 4 hours.
