About the Role
The Director for the Department of Restorative Dentistry will administratively manage the largest department at the dental school, overseeing didactic, preclinical, and clinical programs for 580 students and residents. Reporting to the Department Chair, this role handles day-to-day administrative operations, resolves student and faculty issues, and supports restorative dentistry (RD) courses. Responsibilities include preparing and managing Canvas sites, assembling syllabi, proctoring exams, and adjusting schedules for approximately 100 full- and part-time faculty members.
Responsibilities
- Support didactic, preclinical, and clinical restorative dentistry (RD) courses, including preparing and managing Canvas sites, formatting syllabi, inputting/posting/proctoring exams, and ordering materials for preclinical courses.
- Prepare and manage schedules for ~100 full- and part-time faculty to staff pre-doctoral and AEGD clinics; redistribute faculty as needed.
- Manage faculty coverage of RD preclinical laboratories.
- Collaborate with coordinators in other departments to order implant components via grants, track inventory, and provide restorative parts for student patient care.
- Maintain digitized implant inventory and manage the tracking/transferring process.
- Order supplies for the Sobel lab.
- Collect clinical course data for junior/senior restorative courses and implement electronic systems to share student progress before grade submission; maintain grade spreadsheets.
- Maintain records of departmental competency exams, verifying student eligibility for formative and summative competencies.
- Coordinate interview agendas for full-time faculty searches and schedule interviews for adjunct candidates.
- Track attendance of all full- and part-time faculty.
- Prepare memorandums outlining administrative procedures/policies and monitor compliance.
- Assist with faculty evaluations, appointments, reappointments, and interviews.
- Provide ExamSoft support for department courses and manage Canvas sites for active courses, including importing data for faculty calibration.
- Design spreadsheets to improve departmental efficiency.
- Arrange programs, events, or conferences (facilities, catering, invitations, speakers, budget control).
- Manage the Department Chair’s calendar and schedule appointments independently.
- Resolve varied problems with minimal supervision within established policies/procedures.
- Assist in preparing and editing accreditation documents.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of directly related experience (or equivalent combination of education/experience).
- Proficient in ExamSoft and Canvas (or comparable systems) with the ability to learn new platforms.
- Previous experience in a dental or higher education environment preferred.

Pay
Salary range: $75,000–$85,000/annual. Factors reviewed include job duties, education, experience, internal equity, department budget, and funding source.
