About the Role

The Director of Public Safety - Chief of Police oversees security and safety for Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH). This role plans and directs security programs, procedures, and controls to deter crime and protect BSWH patients, visitors, staff, employees, facilities, and assets from threats. The Chief of Police manages new security processes and guidelines, conducts security assessments, inspections, drills, and ensures compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements. This position resolves security incidents and may coordinate with local law enforcement as needed.

A System Director at BSWH translates and implements strategic plans and goals for their area, making final judgments on operational matters to ensure goal achievement. This role recommends policies and organizational changes, plans and executes projects, and oversees departmental operations, including staffing, processes, budgets, and performance monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Directs public safety and physical security for assigned areas of responsibility within BSWH.
• Recommends and implements strategic and operational plans aligned with BSWH business objectives and community needs.
• Develops and implements policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, medical staff, and employees.
• Directs a professional police and security department, managing safety assessments, inspections, drills, and in-service activities.
• Ensures public safety and security staff maintain required education, certifications, and training, including knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations.
• Directs the selection, implementation, and maintenance of physical security access control, including key control programs, electronic surveillance systems, and security officer support.
• Manages the preparation of reports, metrics, and dashboards for senior leadership, providing updates on crime statistics, trends, or vulnerabilities.
• Oversees the control, regulation, and monitoring of vehicle and pedestrian traffic at all BSWH facilities, including parking and pedestrian areas.
• Directs investigations of alleged violations of criminal law and hospital policy, ensuring proper incident reporting, records, and documentation.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and statutory requirements impacting security and safety in healthcare environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, security management, or a related field preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in law enforcement, public safety, security, or a related field.
• 1+ years of experience in a leadership role.
• Ability to conduct effective interviews of witnesses and suspects.
• Formal training in security protection, law enforcement, corrections, or military police preferred.
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively handle unstable and volatile situations.
• Active TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) license required.

Education may be substituted with 4 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
