Director of Projects

About the role

Deutsche Windtechnik, Germany’s largest independent service provider for wind turbine generators, is seeking a Director of Projects for its Repower division in the United States. Reporting to the Vice President, Repower, the Director will lead the execution of large‑scale wind repower and major component replacement campaigns, build systems and processes, and develop high‑performing field teams.

Responsibilities

• Operations & Field Management: Lead and develop site managers, construction managers, technicians, subcontractors, and vendor partners; ensure adherence to procedures, quality standards, and industry best practices; optimize workforce planning and resource allocation; establish productivity benchmarks (turbine completion rates, crane utilization, rework metrics, schedule performance); manage field readiness including tooling, equipment, training, and certification compliance; champion safety culture in partnership with HSE.
• Supply Chain & Logistics Coordination: Work with Procurement and Supply Chain to secure major components, manage lead‑times, and align deliveries with project schedules and crane mobilizations; plan site logistics such as laydown yards, component staging, transportation windows, and crane activities; oversee subcontractor and vendor performance; proactively mitigate supply‑chain risks (delays, transportation constraints, weather, resource availability).
• Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Implement Lean methodologies and process‑optimization initiatives across planning, execution, commissioning, and closeout; standardize repeatable execution playbooks, work packages, inspection & test plans, commissioning checklists, and lessons‑learned processes; develop operational KPI dashboards and reporting structures; establish regular operating cadence (daily huddles, weekly reviews, monthly portfolio reviews); evaluate and deploy tools and technology to improve field productivity and visibility.
• Leadership & Strategic Support: Represent the Vice President, Repower in customer meetings and cross‑functional initiatives; contribute to divisional strategy, annual planning, resource forecasting, bid/no‑bid decisions, and proposal reviews with execution‑focused input on cost, schedule, and risk; build and strengthen the field leadership bench through recruiting, development, succession planning, and career progression; collaborate with Long‑Term O&M and SFS service lines on shared resource planning and business opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in wind energy, heavy construction, or industrial operations.
• 5+ years leading multi‑site field execution teams.
• Direct experience with wind repower, major component replacement, or crane‑intensive projects.
• Strong commercial, financial, project management, and customer‑facing experience.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 30%.
