Director of Practice Development, Northeast
About the role
Location: Remote, ideally based in Boston or New York. Reports To: Chief Growth Officer.
About Us: We're a leading alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider, delivering mediation, arbitration, and related services to law firms, businesses, and individuals nationwide. Having built a leading platform on the West Coast, we're now expanding into the Northeast. Every neutral (mediator/arbitrator) on our platform operates as an independent entrepreneurial practice. We provide the brand, infrastructure, marketing, and business development support that helps each one reach its full potential — with a dedicated senior partner assigned to every neutral, not just shared marketing support.
Position Summary: This role is responsible for the long-term success of our neutrals across the Northeast. After a neutral completes onboarding, the Director becomes their primary strategic partner — part strategist, part consultant, part operator — helping them build referrals, grow case volume, and increase revenue. This is not a new-business recruiting role. You won't be sourcing new neutrals; you'll be growing the practices of neutrals already on our platform, coaching them on business development while personally executing high-impact growth initiatives alongside our marketing and BD teams.
Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of an assigned portfolio of neutrals following launch, establishing quarterly priorities, annual business objectives, and actionable growth plans for each professional.
- Develop and implement individualized business development strategies by identifying referral channels, target markets, strategic partnerships, and other opportunities for practice expansion.
- Conduct recurring business reviews focused on pipeline activity, performance metrics, market development, and opportunities for continued growth.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and coach to neutrals, supporting their networking strategies, thought leadership efforts, speaking engagements, and overall market positioning.
- Coordinate and facilitate roundtables, CLE programs, networking events, and other initiatives designed to strengthen visibility and enhance the professional profile of assigned neutrals.
- Represent the firm at relevant industry conferences, legal events, and bar association meetings while building relationships with key market participants.
- Monitor individual and portfolio-level practice performance, identify areas requiring improvement, and develop targeted corrective action plans when necessary.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Operations, Finance, and senior leadership to identify and resolve operational or commercial barriers that may limit growth.
- Maintain accurate dashboards, reporting tools, and KPI tracking to monitor the performance and development of the assigned neutral portfolio.
- Create scalable business development strategies, processes, and playbooks that can be replicated as the organization expands into additional markets.
Qualifications
Required: 8+ years of experience in franchise operations, practice management, client advisory, business development, customer success, consulting, or a related field, preferably within legal or professional services. Working knowledge of the legal services industry and its business development dynamics. Demonstrated success helping business owners, professionals, independent operators, or similar stakeholders expand and strengthen their businesses. Strong analytical, organizational, project management, relationship-building, and coaching capabilities. Proven ability to build credibility and drive results through influence rather than direct authority. Strong communication skills and the ability to develop trusted relationships with highly accomplished professionals.
Preferred: Experience in alternative dispute resolution (ADR), litigation services, legal marketing, or legal business development. Background in franchise operations or consulting, particularly in supporting franchisees rather than franchise sales. Experience within professional services, healthcare, financial services, or other relationship-focused industries. Experience advising executives, partners, attorneys, or independent professionals on practice growth and business development. Experience working within a high-growth or private equity-backed services organization. Familiarity with CRM platforms, pipeline management, business development reporting, and performance analytics.
Skills
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to approach each neutral's practice as a distinct business.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the credibility to advise experienced, senior-level professionals.
- Strategic thinker who can translate market opportunities into practical, measurable growth initiatives.
- Highly organized and operationally disciplined, with a strong focus on accountability and execution.
- Comfortable influencing stakeholders and driving change without formal reporting authority.
- Motivated by helping professionals and business partners achieve measurable growth and long-term success.
- Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving organization.
