Position Overview

The Director, Postsecondary Success provides strategic leadership for Black Men Teach's Postsecondary Success function within the Programs Division. This leader is responsible for designing and executing strategies that ensure Fellows successfully persist through college, complete educator preparation programs, earn licensure, and transition into impactful teaching careers.

Core Responsibilities

  • Functional Leadership & Management (15%): Lead the Postsecondary Success function by establishing annual priorities, functional goals, and performance expectations. Manage the function's budget, resources, and personnel to maximize impact and ensure responsible stewardship. Supervise, coach, develop, and evaluate assigned staff through performance management, professional development, and succession planning. Foster a collaborative, student-centered, and high-performing culture grounded in accountability, equity, and continuous improvement. Monitor functional performance through key performance indicators and measurable outcomes.

  • Postsecondary Success Strategy (25%): Develop and execute strategies that improve college persistence, retention, graduation, licensure, and career readiness. Design systems that proactively identify barriers to student success and coordinate timely interventions. Establish success frameworks that support Fellows throughout their postsecondary journey. Monitor student outcomes and recommend improvements that strengthen persistence and completion. Ensure Fellows receive holistic academic, professional, and personal support. Lead continuous improvement efforts that strengthen the overall postsecondary experience.

  • University Partnerships & Educator Preparation (25%): Develop and strengthen strategic partnerships with colleges, universities, educator preparation programs, and licensure providers. Serve as Black Men Teach's primary relationship leader for higher education partnerships. Collaborate with university partners to improve alignment between academic programs and educator workforce needs. Develop partnership agreements and collaborative initiatives that expand opportunities for Fellows. Identify innovative approaches to strengthen educator preparation and increase teacher readiness. Represent Black Men Teach with higher education partners and statewide education initiatives.

  • Career Readiness & Workforce Transition (15%): Lead strategies that prepare Fellows for successful transition into the teaching profession. Collaborate with school districts and program leaders to strengthen pathways into student teaching, residency experiences, and employment. Ensure Fellows receive professional development in interviewing, networking, professionalism, and career planning. Develop systems that improve placement outcomes and workforce readiness. Strengthen connections between postsecondary success and long-term educator retention.

  • Student Success, Data & Continuous Improvement (10%): Monitor postsecondary success metrics, including persistence, graduation, licensure, and placement outcomes. Partner with the Senior Director of Impact & Evaluation to analyze trends and evaluate program effectiveness. Use data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and strengthen student success strategies. Ensure accurate documentation of Fellow progress and program outcomes. Provide regular reports and updates to organizational leadership and external stakeholders.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership & Organizational Collaboration (10%): Partner closely with the Director of Secondary Programs & Educator Pathways to ensure seamless transitions from high school into postsecondary education. Collaborate with the Director of Collective Impact & Partnerships to strengthen university partnerships and educator pathway opportunities. Work closely with Advancement, Finance, Teaching & Learning, and Operations to advance organizational priorities. Contribute to strategic planning, budgeting, grant implementation, and organizational initiatives. Champion Black Men Teach's mission, values, and commitment to educational equity across all aspects of the postsecondary experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Education, Student Affairs, Organizational Leadership, Public Administration, or a related field.

  • Five (5) or more years of progressive leadership experience in higher education, educator preparation, college success, or nonprofit leadership.

  • Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated success supporting college student persistence, retention, and completion.

  • Experience building partnerships with colleges, universities, or educator preparation programs.

  • Strong understanding of educator licensure pathways and higher education systems.

  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and relationship management skills.

  • Commitment to advancing educational equity and increasing the representation of Black male educators.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Education, Student Affairs, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.

  • Experience with teacher preparation or educator workforce initiatives.

  • Knowledge of Minnesota educator licensure systems.

  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and organizational change.

  • Equity & Inclusion: Centers belonging, removes barriers, and advances equitable opportunities for Fellows throughout their postsecondary journey.

Physical Requirements

  • The person in this position needs to be able to move about inside and outside different facilities (e.g., schools) or offices throughout the workday.
  • The candidate is expected to attend conferences, meetings and training sessions both virtually and in-person.

Work Environment

  • Typical office environment or virtual space with frequent interruptions.

Compensation And Benefits

Salary range: $82,000 – $90,000. Final salary is determined by BMT based on years of experience, educational background, and level of expertise. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
