Director of Patient Safety

Job Summary

We are seeking a Director of Patient Safety for our team to be an innovator. HCA Healthcare partners with Harvard Pilgrim Institute and the CDC to use our data from more than 26 million patient encounters each year to impact the industry.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare related field required
• CPPS (Certification in Patient Safety) (within one year of hire); Must also meet/comply with state requirements as applicable
• Three to five years relevant experience in patient safety, risk and/or quality
• Experience with electronic health records and reporting system preferred
• Knowledge of patient safety science principles, theory, methods, standards and regulatory requirements
• Strong leadership qualities (task completion, motivation, organization)
• Knowledge of and experience with patient safety analysis techniques, including root cause analysis, cause and effect analysis, and failure mode and effect analysis
• Knowledge of rapid cycle improvement theory, patient safety science and human factor principles
• Advanced computer skills with word processing in database competency

Responsibilities

• Initiate and oversee proactive evaluation and redesign of systems to improve care processes to prevent future errors
• Implement information and management systems that support patient safety and use information from different sources to support the activities of the patient safety program
• Oversee and coordinate the investigation of serious events and incidents as well as the internal and external reporting of those events
• Facilitate and coordinate participation in Risk Reduction Program components
• Guide facility leadership in activities that enable and sustain an open and fair environment that promotes learning, safe systems, and appropriately, managing behavioral choices related to patient safety (e.g. Patient Safety Rounds, Event Response, and Disclosure)
