About the role

We are seeking a Director of Patient Safety to provide leadership and direction in developing a culture of safety and identifying opportunities and initiatives to enhance patient safety. You will develop strategic and operational plans to build a prospective, proactive, loss-prevention, and harm-reduction patient safety program at HCA Florida Largo Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services with over 180 hospitals and about 2,000 sites of care in 21 states and the United Kingdom.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and oversee proactive evaluation and redesign of systems to improve care processes and prevent future errors.
  • Implement information and management systems that support patient safety, using data from various sources to drive program activities.
  • Oversee and coordinate the investigation of serious events and incidents, including internal and external reporting.
  • Facilitate and coordinate participation in Risk Reduction Program components.
  • Guide facility leadership in activities that enable and sustain an open and fair environment promoting learning, safe systems, and appropriate management of behavioral choices related to patient safety (e.g., Patient Safety Rounds, Event Response, and Disclosure).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare-related field (required).
  • CPPS (Certification in Patient Safety) within one year of hire; must also meet/comply with state requirements as applicable.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience in patient safety, risk, and/or quality.
  • Experience with electronic health records and reporting systems (preferred).
  • Knowledge of patient safety science principles, theory, methods, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong leadership qualities, including task completion, motivation, and organization.
  • Knowledge of and experience with patient safety analysis techniques, including root cause analysis, cause and effect analysis, and failure mode and effect analysis.
  • Knowledge of rapid cycle improvement theory, patient safety science, and human factor principles.
  • Advanced computer skills with proficiency in word processing and database competency.
