Director of Overhead Contact Systems
About the Role
Herzog Contracting Corp. is seeking a Director of Overhead Contact Systems in St. Joseph, Missouri to lead business development, operational management, and strategic growth for Rail Traction Electrification (RTE) projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead business development for RTE projects, including development of project estimates, proposals, and participation in interviews.
- Monitor the RTE market for potential contracting opportunities and present them to Executive Management.
- Develop and manage relationships with key clients, vendors, and stakeholders, including strategic alliances and teaming for project pursuit.
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for RTE direct report Managers and Field Supervision, aligning with Company standards, policies, goals, and culture.
- Identify, hire, and/or train key personnel for Management, Field Supervision, and Craft roles.
- Manage strategic alliances between other Company Divisions to achieve corporate goals and objectives.
- Monitor the RTE industry for advances in technology, best practices, and changed standards.
- Oversee divisional operations and performance, including development and management of Division/Project budgets and cost-to-complete.
- Promote and engage in Herzog’s culture and essential behaviors.
- Ensure regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in building Systems Divisions at a Senior Management level, including development of processes, team building, training, and mentoring.
- Experience with installation of Overhead Contact Systems, including:
- Single Wire Fixed Tension (SWFT)
- Single Wire Auto Tension (SWAT)
- Simple Catenary Auto Tension (SCAT)
- Simple Catenary Fixed Tension (SCFT)
- Overhead Conductor Rail/Bar
- Installation of Traction Power Third Rail Systems.
- Knowledge of other mass transit systems, such as Traction Power Substations, Communications, and Signal/Train Control, is beneficial.
- Senior Project Management and Senior Construction Management experience throughout the project life cycle, from tender through closeout.
- Hands-on knowledge of RTE installation, materials, and equipment.
- Experience with material takeoff, buyout, and procurement of commodity futures.
- Established network of owners, vendors, and peers within the RTE industry.
- Experience in planning and executing detailed tie-ins and cutovers.
- Experience with High Speed Rail preferred.
Pre-Employment Requirements

- Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required by the position.
- Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position.
- Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

- Frequently use a computer keyboard and office-related equipment.
- Occasional standing, walking, lifting, stooping, or bending.
- Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
- Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
