Director of Outbound Distribution

About the role
As the Director of Outbound Distribution, you will ensure we meet the demands of our expanding Fulfillment Center footprint. You will lead the establishment and evolution of systems, automation, people, and processes as the company grows. You will oversee all aspects of order processing including Picking, Packing, Assembly, Loading Operations, and Freight Shipping. You will develop and execute a daily operating plan, ensuring fulfillment operations run efficiently while meeting quality, productivity, and safety goals. You will also play a key role in developing operations managers and supervisors and collaborate with Customer Service and Sales teams on daily execution and special projects.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead an outbound operations fulfillment team and processes that uphold a high-volume same-day shipping value proposition
- Plan and monitor performance daily, making adjustments to ensure all orders ship with high quality
- Comprehensively understand and manage OSHA standards and DOT regulations; ensure compliance with all other regulatory requirements
- Provide cross-training and skill development to a large team of Managers, Supervisors, Specialists, and hourly team members
- Lead automated distribution process improvement and optimization
- Ensure all team members receive adequate training and resources to succeed, coordinating with Supervisors and Human Resources
- Partner with the Senior Leadership Team on the development and execution of company goals and strategies
- Manage staffing levels and scheduling
- Collaborate with managers, supervisors, Quality, Continuous Improvement, and Analytics teams on process improvement and growth opportunities
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in a high-volume Distribution Center (experience in an automated DC is a plus)
- Minimum of 4 years in a manager or higher role
- Degree in Operations, Industrial Engineering, or Supply Chain Management
- Hands-on leadership style; stays engaged with day-to-day operations
- Experience motivating teams to reach new production goals
- Strong change management skills for fast-growing environments
- Expertise in process improvement methodologies (Lean or Six Sigma is a plus)
- Analytical mindset with a data-driven approach to problem-solving
- Experience developing standardized work with a focus on training and process improvement
- Mastery of Pick-Pack-Ship process flow and organization
- Problem-solving skills to meet increasing delivery expectations
- Solid understanding of UPS, including small parcel and freight shipment processing (transportation management experience is a plus)
- Experience in a forklift-heavy environment
- Empathy, understanding, and patience with employees and external customers
- Proficiency in MS Office, including MS Excel
- Ability to continuously move around on a concrete surface
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to improve quality while reducing distribution costs
- Excellent communication skills in English (both written and verbal)

Pay
The annual salary range for this role varies based on qualifications, experience, and geographical location. Encompass is a pay-for-performance company, and some roles include bonus opportunities in addition to base pay.
