Director of Operations - Power Generation
This power generation company is hiring a Director of Operations to oversee the safe, reliable, and profitable operation of multiple power generation facilities. The role oversees operations, maintenance, engineering, and staff management while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and contractual requirements, and reports to the Senior Vice President of Operations.
About the role
The Director of Operations will drive continuous improvement in plant safety, reliability, efficiency, and profitability, applying industry best practices across multiple power generation facilities. This includes:
- Leading, developing, and managing plant staff to ensure alignment with facility, company, and industry standards
- Overseeing daily operations to meet or exceed production and performance targets
- Ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, regulatory, and contractual requirements, including permitting and reporting obligations
- Managing hiring, performance management, compensation processes, and personnel practices in line with company policy and applicable law
- Developing, managing, and controlling facility budgets, forecasts, and expenditures aligned with long-term maintenance plans
- Administering and ensuring compliance with O&M Agreements, PPAs, LTSA agreements, and utility agreements
- Planning and overseeing plant outages to optimize production, cost, and schedule performance
- Providing hands-on operational and technical support as needed, and coordinating external resources to evaluate equipment issues
- Leading risk assessments and applying market and industry knowledge to inform operational decisions
- Directing system upgrades, modifications, and operational improvements
- Leading transitions related to asset acquisitions, divestitures, or changes in O&M providers
- Serving as a liaison with regulatory agencies and the local community to promote positive relationships and community engagement
Role involves oversight across multiple facilities and may require travel between sites.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in power generation operations and/or maintenance, including significant experience with gas turbine facilities
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or strong experience with the business and commercial aspects of independent power producers
- Demonstrated expertise in environmental compliance, budgeting and cost control, contract administration, and organizational development
- Proven ability to develop innovative solutions to technical, operational, and business challenges
- Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences
Pay
$175,000 to $225,000 per year, based on qualifications and experience
