About the Role

The Construction Director of Operations will translate the company’s strategic growth plans into an actionable and defined operational plan. This position oversees the day-to-day activities of construction operations, ensuring the identification, acquisition, and profitable completion of projects to meet division goals.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership of the team and support team members as needed.
  • Participate in the hiring and training of team members.
  • Organize and oversee project teams to ensure timely and on-budget completion.
  • Conduct timely and constructive performance evaluations.
  • Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Responsibilities

  • Business Development:
    • Uphold and present a positive image of the organization to employees, clients, and communities.
    • Support client relations and develop new clients.
    • Identify potential new markets and opportunities.
    • Work with the Business Development Department to develop strategies and project pursuit plans.
    • Assist in the development and writing of project proposals.
    • Provide guidance to project teams during presentations.
  • Preconstruction:
    • Oversee coordination with the preconstruction department to provide pre-construction and estimating services.
    • Oversee the completion of owner deliverables during the preconstruction phase.
    • Review owner contracts and collaborate with the Risk Department to negotiate terms and mitigate risks.
  • Team Leadership/Management:
    • Encourage a positive work environment through leadership.
    • Coordinate project team assignments.
    • Evaluate strengths and weaknesses of team members.
    • Develop career paths and conduct performance reviews.
  • Project Operations:
    • Accountable for specific components of construction operations in the Division or Region as assigned.
    • Accountable for the success of construction business development efforts and project execution processes.
    • Provide construction support to Project Managers.
    • Review project safety efforts to ensure compliance and a safe jobsite.
    • Review project schedules to maintain success.
    • Review project accounting and financial reporting.
  • General:
    • Help develop and implement policies and procedures to improve day-to-day operations.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of practices, theories, and policies involved in business and finance.
  • Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Superior managerial and diplomacy skills.
  • Extremely proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Extensive and diversified background with at least 10 years of related Commercial Construction experience.
