About the role
The Director of Operations will build and lead Tarkett Sports Construction's construction delivery organization in the Mid Atlantic region. Reporting to the Regional Vice President, this position oversees all aspects of construction projects from GMP negotiation through closeout, manages project budgets and schedules, and ensures compliance with safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage all construction projects from GMP negotiation through closeout
- Own project schedule, budget, and cost-to-complete forecasting
- Drive project-level P&L—deliver at or above bid margin
- Manage preconstruction-to-construction handoffs
- Serve as primary client-facing delivery leader for owners from NTP through warranty
- Support Go/No-Go decisions and pursue strategy with delivery credibility
- Recruit, hire, and develop Project Managers, Superintendents, and Project Engineers
- Build a bench capable of running multiple concurrent projects without VP involvement on every job
- Establish operating cadence with peer leaders (Self-Perform, Preconstruction, Sales)
- Report to the RVP on delivery performance, org build progress, and risk exposure
- Design and document project delivery SOPs
- Implement Procore workflows and train the team on RFI, submittal, QC, daily log, and drawing management
- Create QA/QC programs with standardized inspection checklists and hold points
- Create subcontractor procurement and buyout processes
- Develop project reporting templates (cost reports, schedule narratives, risk registers) as the regional standard
- Train new hires and existing staff on all delivery systems
- Drive zero-recordable safety culture on all construction projects
- Ensure full compliance with TSP safety standards and OSHA requirements
Requirements
- 15+ years in construction project management, 5+ years at Project Executive or senior PM level
- Must be GC-side experience at a commercial general contractor
- Projects in the $20M–$75M+ range under GMP, Cost-Plus, or CM-at-Risk delivery
- Institutional sectors: K-12, higher ed, municipal, healthcare, or sports/recreation facilities
- Built and led project teams — hired PMs and Supers, not just inherited them
- Implemented project delivery systems and trained teams on new processes
- Deep knowledge of the Texas construction market — subs, owners, permitting, competition
- Bachelor’s degree or extensive experience in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field
- MBA or advanced degree a plus
- OSHA 30-Hour required; CCM, PMP, or DBIA certifications a plus
Qualifications
- Strong communication and client relationship skills — owner-facing from day one
- Experience managing projects in the Mid Atlantic region
- Experience with CPM scheduling (P6 or equivalent), cost reporting, WIP preparation, earned value analysis
- Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, Sage, Spectrum, or equivalent construction ERP experience preferred
