About the role

We are partnered with a leading, physician-led healthcare organization that is continuing to invest heavily in expanding and enhancing its oncology platform across the Chicagoland market. The organization recently launched a brand-new community cancer institute designed to bring together advanced oncology care, radiation oncology, infusion services, and clinical research in a highly coordinated, patient-centered model.

The cancer program currently spans four locations throughout the western and southern Chicago suburbs and continues to evolve toward a more specialized, academically aligned oncology model with deeper integration across research, infusion, and multidisciplinary cancer care services.

The opportunity

This is a high-impact operational and clinical leadership role overseeing hematology, oncology, and radiation oncology services across a growing community-based cancer network. Reporting to the VP of Clinical Operations, the Director will partner closely with physician leadership, pharmacy/infusion leadership, and research leadership to continue building a best-in-class oncology program focused on patient access, care coordination, operational excellence, and clinical quality.

Key responsibilities

  • Oncology Operations Leadership
    • Provide operational and strategic leadership across hematology, medical oncology, and radiation oncology services
    • Partner closely with physician leaders to optimize workflows, staffing, patient access, and operational performance
    • Drive consistency and operational standardization across multiple oncology practice locations
    • Support growth and expansion of oncology programs, including integration with infusion and research initiatives
  • Patient Experience & Care Coordination
    • Lead initiatives focused on improving the oncology patient journey from diagnosis through treatment
    • Improve care coordination, patient throughput, navigation, and overall patient experience
    • Develop programs and operational processes that improve speed-to-treatment and continuity of care
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Lead and mentor managers, supervisors, APP leadership, and operational support teams across oncology service lines
    • Partner with clinical and physician leaders to strengthen staffing models, employee engagement, and operational alignment
    • Foster a collaborative, patient-centered culture focused on accountability, communication, and continuous improvement
  • Strategic & Program Development
    • Support ongoing development of specialized oncology programs aligned with academic and research partnerships
    • Collaborate closely with research leadership to support clinical trial and research integration efforts
    • Partner with executive leadership on operational strategy, growth planning, and performance improvement initiatives
  • Financial & Performance Management
    • Oversee operational budgets, staffing models, productivity metrics, and performance reporting
    • Utilize operational and financial data to identify improvement opportunities and drive sustainable growth
    • Monitor KPIs tied to patient access, throughput, staffing, satisfaction, and operational performance

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience within oncology, infusion, radiation oncology, or multi-site ambulatory healthcare operations
  • Clinical background preferred (RN, APP, or other relevant clinical leadership experience helpful), but not required for candidates with strong oncology operations leadership experience
  • Strong understanding of oncology workflows, multidisciplinary cancer care delivery, and physician practice operations
  • Experience working closely with physicians and interdisciplinary clinical teams
  • Experience with oncology research programs and infusion operations strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to lead complex teams and drive operational improvement across multi-site healthcare environments
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational leadership skills

Why this role

  • Opportunity to help shape a newly expanded community cancer institute
  • High visibility role partnering directly with executive leadership, physicians, infusion leadership, and research teams
  • Able to impact the full oncology patient experience across diagnosis, treatment, and care coordination
  • Growing, clinically sophisticated oncology platform with continued investment and expansion plans
  • Collaborative, physician-led culture focused on innovation and patient-centered care
