The Director of Nursing oversees the day-to-day nursing operations of Eventide Crete, a skilled nursing facility in Crete, NE. The position requires an active NE RN license or the ability to obtain one upon hire. Long-term care experience is preferred but not required, and previous supervisory/management experience is a plus.
Essential Job Duties
Administers nursing department administration, development, organization, evaluation, and direction of nursing department programs and activities according to current rules, regulations, and guidelines.
Evaluates current procedures and practices and develops and implements alternative care methods to improve resident care, including admissions, nursing, social services, activities, and infection control processes.
Coordinates with the Executive Director to ensure the completion of the Plan of Correction for survey deficiencies during inspections and provides a written copy to the Chief Operating Officer as needed.
Determines and ensures adequate levels of nursing personnel to meet staffing requirements.
Ensures that documentation is reviewed in a timeframe consistent with state and federal regulations.
Assists in the budgeting processes, including analysis of costs, operations, and forecasting data to determine progress toward stated goals and objectives.
Prepares reports and records on department operations as needed.
Rotates nursing call responsibilities for designated campuses as needed.
Performs periodic review and coding of pharmacy and nursing invoices.
Direct Care
Directs and coordinates individualized care plans for Eventide's residents/tenants through chart review and is responsible for the accuracy of nursing care records.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to ensure accuracy of resident's progress and identifies changes in condition to implement appropriate interventions.
Establishes and evaluates standards of resident care. Develops appropriate programs to identify developmental and educational needs of the staff.
Aids Managers/Coordinators in monitoring Medicare information on residents and assisting in determining Medicare eligibility of residents/tenants as needed.
Ensures a comprehensive plan of care is established and implemented for each resident.
Makes the final decision on resident/tenant admissions and resident moves in conjunction with the Social Services Director or Social Worker.
Ensures appropriate discharge and transfer planning is conducted for residents.
Performs direct nursing care as necessary for training or staffing purposes.
Monitors nursing staff to ensure they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
Ensures nursing areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
Leadership
Makes daily rounds of the nursing department to ensure staff are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards.
Attends meetings, chairs designated committees as requested, and provides resident information to committees as appropriate.
Reviews achievements and discusses required changes in goals and objectives with interdisciplinary team.
Builds and maintains relationships with families and residents. Assists with problem-solving when necessary.
Remains visible within the community and represents the facility at various community functions as needed.
Maintains a good working relationship with the medical profession and other health-related facilities and organizations through formal working and transfer agreements.
Interviews and hires Resident Care positions for the department as necessary.
Assumes responsibility for job performance appraisals of designated staff.
Counsels, disciplines, and terminates employees as needed and ensures thorough documentation is completed.
Consults with Executive Director and Human Resources Director throughout employee appraisal and termination processes.
Acts on behalf of Administrator during his/her absence as necessary.
Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, etc. to stay current on changes in the long-term care field and maintains a current licensure status.
Rotates weekend and weekly on-call responsibilities and provides leadership to direct care staff.
