Responsibilities

  • Select and place the music for all liturgies: Weekend masses (2), Seasonal and special celebrations, Holy Week, Advent, and Holy Days of Obligation
  • Accompany, on piano, all liturgies
  • - Work with engaged couples in preparing wedding liturgies
  • - Work with bereaved in preparing funeral liturgies
  • Recruit, train, rehearse and direct cantors, choir members, and instrumentalists
  • Be current in knowledge or official statements and Church documents on music and liturgy.
  • Have a strong commitment to personal development in both music and liturgy.
  • Work collaboratively with the pastor to achieve a vibrant liturgical life in the parishes.

Requirements

  • Must be a practicing Catholic living in accord with the moral norms of the Church.
  • Pass Safe Environment background checks and attend Protecting God’s Children.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, when necessary.
  • Able to travel and drive one's own vehicle to various diocesan locations.
