Director of Municipal Fleet Facilities
About the role
This role is within HDR’s Architecture Business Group and focuses on guiding the strategy, delivery, and growth of O&M facilities projects. The role involves working closely with clients, multidisciplinary design teams, and internal stakeholders to develop solutions that address complex challenges and support high performing fleet operations.
Responsibilities
Develop annual business plans including strategies and tactics to grow the O&M facility practice across all regions.
Lead the expansion of services aligned with HDR’s full-service approach, including programming, site analysis, master planning, conceptual design, equipment planning, and building systems engineering.
Analyze emerging marketplace trends and strategize to position the organization for growth.
Collaborate with O&M Facility Planning and local Civic Market Sector leadership teams to deliver all phases of O&M facility projects.
Foster a culture of innovation and guide staff in understanding facility types, scopes, schedules, budgets, and best practice O&M design elements.
Provide leadership in operational planning, construction understanding, contracting strategy, and regulatory compliance.
Coordinate internal project workflows to ensure alignment between client goals, design execution, and business outcomes.
Support integration of fleet-focused planning considerations into project solutions.
Maintain strong client relationships by effectively communicating design approaches, project constraints, and facility performance strategies.
Requirements
A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, including 5+ years leading O&M or related facility programs.
Registered Architect.
Strong business acumen, including budget and staff management.
Strong technical and graphic design skills with the ability to translate operational needs into detailed facility documentation.
Ability to work proactively, multitask, and collaborate across teams and disciplines.
Understanding of equipment planning considerations for facilities that support large scale fleet operations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or closely related field.
Minimum of 12 years industry experience including leadership.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong skills in client management, client development, and a documented history of growing/leading a practice.
Strong business skills; specifically handling budgets, staff and operational issues.
Ability to analyze the marketplace and strategically position HDR.
Skills
Leadership in developing and executing growth strategies within operations, maintenance, and public sector facility markets.
Aligning planning, budgeting, forecasting, and business strategy into actionable plans that drive results.
Consulting environments or matrixed organizations supporting operational and public infrastructure.
Proficient in communicating ideas graphically and digitally using tools such as SketchUp, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite.

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
