Director of Memory Care
Position Summary
The Director of Memory Care oversees all aspects of the community’s Memory Care program, including resident assessments, care planning, programming, staffing, training, and family support. This role ensures residents living with dementia receive exceptional clinical and emotional care while leading, educating, and supporting the Memory Care team.
This role serves as a key liaison among residents, families, physicians, hospitals, and community partners, including organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Resident Care Plan, develop, and evaluate the Memory Care program (Aspyre neighborhood) in compliance with federal, state, and Solera standards
Conduct pre-move-in and ongoing resident assessments; develop and monitor individualized care plans
Monitor changes in resident condition and coordinate appropriate interventions
Maintain accurate documentation and complete all required data entry in resident care systems
Team Leadership & Development
- Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate Memory Care team members
- Provide orientation and ongoing dementia-specific training in accordance with state and federal requirements
- Ensure adequate staffing and coverage while adhering to budgets and policies
- Coach team members to deliver compassionate, person-centered care
Family, Provider & Community Collaboration
- Serve as primary resource for residents, families, and physicians
- Lead service plan meetings and support ongoing family communication
- Cookordinate care services to ensure continuity and high standards of care
Operations, Compliance & Growth
- Support community inspections and ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety standards
- Maintain a safe, engaging, and therapeutic environment tailored to residents with dementia
- Participate in tours, marketing efforts, and referral development to support census growth
- Promote teamwork, professionalism, and a positive community image
Required Qualifications & Experience
Education: Two years of college coursework in gerontology, nursing, social work, or a related health or human services field preferred
Licensed nursing or healthcare professionals: Strongly preferred
Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in residential care for older adults
Experience with specialized dementia or memory care programs: Strongly preferred
Skills & Abilities
Strong leadership, coaching, and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to problem-solve, make sound decisions under pressure, and adapt to changing resident needs
Proficiency with basic office software and electronic care documentation systems
Compassionate, patient, and dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals living with dementia
Additional Requirements
Ability to pass a state-required criminal background check
Current First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
Must be at least 18 years of age
Ability to meet physical requirements of the role, including mobility and occasional lifting
