Director of Maintenance Control - Facility Operations - Campus Services

Reporting to the AVP of Facilities Management, leads all zone maintenance units and the paint shop, supporting the Atlanta, Oxford, and Grady Campuses. This includes classrooms, administrative buildings, residential facilities, laboratory and research buildings, and recreational facilities totaling over 10 million square feet of space on 690 acres.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and supervision for a team of professionals delivering a full range of facilities maintenance and operation services.
  • Oversee campus-wide maintenance service contracts (elevator, emergency generator, grease trap, fire alarm panel, fire pump & extinguisher, etc.).
  • Coordinate 24/7, after-hours, and weekend emergency maintenance response in collaboration with Emory Public Safety Department (EPD).
  • Serve as a vital role during Critical Emergency Preparedness and Response (CEPAR) activations, providing critical infrastructure information and coordinating emergency response.
  • Direct operations, maintenance, safety, environmental, and customer relations issues.
  • Ensure continuity of policy and procedures and effective cross-functional coordination across Facilities Management and Campus Services.
  • Determine when contract services are needed to support mission objectives and participate in vendor selection.
  • Forecast staffing, equipment, and resource needs.
  • Ensure adherence to building and life safety codes, including regulations for hazardous chemicals and power equipment.
  • Plan, administer, and monitor the department's capital equipment, operations, and personnel budgets.
  • Provide prioritized input to the Major Maintenance & Repair Program.
  • Develop short and long-term organizational goals supporting Campus Service and Emory missions.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Exterior Services, Sr. Director of Energy and Utilities, and the Director of Building and Residential Services for cross-functional requirements.
  • Engage routinely with customers and stakeholders to assess service level performance goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, architecture, business administration, or a related field, and seven years of experience in facilities management, including supervisory and budget management experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute.
  • Thorough knowledge of work order systems, work control methods, and building system components.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including data input/extraction, spreadsheets, and report writing, with the ability to produce key performance indicator (KPI) and status reports.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate trends, interpret results, and recommend process improvements across Facilities Management.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate ideas persuasively and prepare clear, professional oral presentations, written reports, and briefings.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license and insurable driving record (if required by the position).

This position requires in-person work at an Emory University location; remote work is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to the employee.
