Help Shape the Future for Children and Families
At Methodist Home for Children (MHC), we work every day to strengthen families, support children in crisis, and create brighter futures across North Carolina. We are seeking an experienced, relationship-driven Director of Legacy Giving to lead and expand our planned giving program.
Responsibilities
- Build and Grow the Legacy Giving Program
- Develop and execute a comprehensive planned giving strategy
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of approximately 100 planned gift prospects
- Expand donor engagement opportunities that support MHC's mission and long-term sustainability
- Manage Major Donor Relationships
- Conduct donor meetings, calls, emails, and visits to build strong relationships
- Collaborate with agency leadership, board members, and Advancement staff to move prospects through the donor pipeline
- Develop customized cultivation and solicitation strategies for major and planned gift opportunities
- Advance Planned Giving Initiatives
- Coordinate planned giving marketing efforts, including mailings, educational seminars, and Cassie Bright Society recognition activities
- Prepare gift proposals, stewardship materials, donor acknowledgements, and other communications
- Assist with donor recognition and publicity related to significant gifts and accomplishments
- Provide Strategic Expertise
- Maintain current knowledge of planned giving vehicles, tax considerations, and charitable giving strategies
- Develop relationships with attorneys, financial advisors, and other professionals involved in complex gift planning
- Evaluate opportunities involving real estate, closely held stock, multi-year pledges, and other planned gift arrangements
- Support Advancement Activities
- Track donor interactions and maintain detailed contact reports and donor management records
- Participate in special events and fundraising activities
- Serve as a trusted advisor and liaison to planned giving prospects and donors
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated success in fundraising, major gifts, business development, sales, or a related field
- Proven ability to build relationships and secure significant investments or major gifts
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in nonprofit fundraising or development
- CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) or ACRFE credential
- Knowledge of planned giving vehicles and donor stewardship best practices
